Warm your cockles
Winter looming and nothing to wear? We've got the perfect cosy knits and snuggly wraps for you. Seriously, you're going to L.O.V.E it.
I cannot believe I’m moaning about the weather but, ugh, it’s here, it’s getting nippy and I’m gonna need a whole load more cashmere. Actually, scratch that, I love snuggling into a cool sweater (big star on the front? Check. Funky elbow patches? Check) and where better to stock up than local fave Luna? With stores in both Marlborough and Devizes (and further afield in Hungerford and Newbury, Berks), owner Carrie gives us the lowdown on what to wear this winter and how to look funky while you’re at it.
I’m going nuts for these quirky knits from Carla Giannini, with embroidered flowers and shredded bottoms (OK, that sounds a bit rude but you know what I mean). Or go chunky and oversized with J&L Paris (not a Granny cardi in sight).
We love these soft classic v-necks from C Valentyne of Italy – stars are still bang on trend as my stylista buddies tell me, and they’re here in abundance, thank you very much. Pair with a pair (see what I did there?) of skinny jeans and boots and you’ll look uber-cool. ‘Soft, easy-to-wear fabrics are our thing,’ Carrie tells me, ‘We don’t do itchy,’ and neither do I, so it looks like me and these sweaters are a match made in heaven.
Channel your inner Annie Oakley in these lasso-tossing, rodeo-riding ponchos. OK, so we’re not really talking getting-your-gun here but more soft, versatile and very very snuggly. Ponchos were one of autumn’s biggest trends last year and I embraced it with gusto – they are easy to wear, cover a multitude of sins and make your legs look thinner. Bingo! So let’s embrace it again this year and buy more…
Why, of course. With navy, cream, black, grey and more colours on offer, gilets, jackets and even a to-die-for faux suede poncho from JayLey, you can cover up nice and tight against the winter blues.
Have you seen anything as hip as these sweatshirt dresses? Well you have now but butt out – these are mine….all mine!!! (Cue hysterical laughter.)
The bottom half
Pair all those juicy tops off with fab stretchy jeans and trousers from Robell. Available in a gazillion colours, straight leg, slim leg and, hopefully, my somewhat flabby leg, this are a straight-up best seller. Pair with boots and a chunky scarf and you’re all ready to go, lady!
Metallic clutches, star-spangled scarves, wallets, silk neck ties, funky chunky jewellery, it’s all here with bells on.
A big tick for Luna in our book is that you don’t have to be Alexa-Chung-skinny to carry off their knitwear. The range often goes up to a size 22 and it’s just as fabulous whether big or small. Best selling brands include Robell, Suzy D, Miss Sugar, C Valentyne, Made in Italy, Eden Rock and Peace & Love so we’re talking the comfy, cosy and fun side of Planet Fashion rather than too cool for school. But who needs that, eh?
All this cool stuff is coming now and over the next few weeks so DO NOT PANIC if not all of them are in store yet (unless I’ve bought them all, which might well be the case), but if I were you I’d head down now to slap your order on the table and snoop around the other styles arriving weekly this autumn. Then keep a beady on Luna’s Facebook page to see when your favourite style is arriving.
