October Half Term: Sorted

Half term looms, so what to do with the little monsters? Never fear, Muddy to the rescue with the lowdown on things to do - ghoulish or otherwise.

Pumpkin Carving & Fiendish Fancy Dress at Roves Farm 20-31 October

Roves Farm is one of our fave trips for younger kids at any time of year, but there’s even more to do this October: book tickets for pumpkin carving (leave the mess behind!) or win a prize in the spooky fancy dress competition. If you’re all spooked out, there’s plenty more with animal petting and unique indoor and outdoor play areas.

Make music! Salisbury Arts Centre Thurs 21 Oct 9.30am & 1.30pm

It could be the beginning of something beautiful. An intro to music making for ages 7-11 with inspirational leaders Alice Poppleton and David Garcia. No experience necessary. Book your £5 place.

The Wizards of Once Halloween Quest Stonehenge 23-31 October

Have a wicked day out with the druids on the brand new adventure trail inspired by Cressida Cowell’s bestselling series. Come in fancy dress and take a photo to enter their competition.

Rock The Tots Salisbury Guildhall Sat 23 October, 10.30am

Celebrate Voice have musical events for all ages over half term, including professional opera and jazz. This one’s for 0-5 years and their adults, and there will be a live guitarist and singers performing rock & pop covers with puppets, percussion and stories.

Spooky Children’s Halloween Experience The Cookery School, Warminster, Friday 29 October 11am-1pm

If you’ve got any spooky children (I know we have) then book them in for a morning of making their own spooky snacks. Suitable for ages 8 up. 1 accompanying adult needed for every 4 children.

Holiday Club Braeside Activity Centre, Devizes 25-29 October

This holiday club is a dream come true for kids (and working parents) with activities including high ropes, water sports, abseiling and camp fire cooking. Book by the day.

The Shift Social Salisbury Arts Centre Sat 30 October, 7pm

An event, for once, aimed at young teens. It can be tricky finding entertainment for this age group and this is just the ticket: an evening of fun, food, drink and live music from some of Salisbury’s most promising young bands. Fancy dress positively encouraged, with prizes.

Autumn Adventure Trail Bowood House & Gardens 21-31 October

Take part in a nature trail through a stunning arboretum, follow the pumpkin trail and watch out for scarecrows, spiders and spooky skeletons. Included in normal admission price. There is also, of course, the perennial favourite pirate ship and massive adventure playground.

Mavis Sparkle The Egg Theatre, Bath 28-30 October

She’s a cleaner with a dream to see nature’s biggest light show with her own eyes. A heart-warming mix of illusion, animation and live performance. Suitable for age 4+.

Witches Brew Halloween Trail (1-31 Oct) & Trick or Treat Fun Days (29-31 Oct) at Hope Nature Centre, Trowbridge

This place got a lot of votes in our awards, so we know you’re pretty fond of it. With even more going on in October, don’t forget to book up the seasonal themed activities.

River Bourne Community Farm, Salisbury

Visit the animals, nature trails and cafe. Nothing fancy, but a lovely, laidback atmosphere. It’s open every morning, it’s free, and you don’t have to book. How refreshing.

Halloween at the American Museum Claverton, Nr Bath 23-31 October

If you’ve not sampled the American Museum, all ages are in for a treat; it’s well worth the trip into Somerset with gorgeous gardens, parkland and children’s play area. Of course Americans do halloween so well, and you can expect themed crafts and sweets at a trick or treat station, as well as a US style fancy dress parade at weekends (23,24,30,31 Oct) at 11am and 3pm.

Jumping Fun Salisbury

Inflatable theme park with soft play / ball pool for the littlies up to the 18,000 square feet “main stage” with jelly mountain, wobble forest and gladiator zone for the, erm, big kids. Tempting.
