Autumn School Open Days

We're looking ahead to the autumn term (yikes!) and getting our School Open Days diary sorted. Here's all you need to know.

Badminton School, Bristol, Sixth Form Open Evening 28 Sep, Whole School Open Morning 6 Oct

A dynamic day and boarding school for girls aged 3-18, Badminton School’s careful balance of intellectual firepower with common courtesy and support stands its girls out from the crowd. With excellent facilities and some of the best boarding and pastoral care provision we have seen, it’s worth a look. Find out more at their Sixth Form Open Evening on 28 Sep and their Whole School Open Morning on 6 Oct. Big ticks from us include their popular on-site Nursery Forest School, new Sports Centre and an impressive curriculum. We have been invited to have a snoop in a few week’s time so watch this space for our Muddy review!

Warminster Prep and Warminster Senior School, Warminster, 6 Oct

Really one should talk about Warminster School not Warminster Prep and Warminster Senior as it really is a blended entity shepherding boys and girls from age 3 to 18 – but there’s so much to see and say, so we at Muddy took the liberty of two visits and two reviews! Read our review to the Senior School, a co-ed, all-through day and boarding school on the edge of Salisbury Plain that prides itself on nurturing happy, confident and community-spirited pupils here. The Prep, the younger sibling where bright-eyed kids and teachers exude confidence and a love of life, is no less impressive – check out our review. And when you are done reading, go and see for yourself at their whole school open day on Sat 6 Oct, 10am-1pm.

Leehurst Swan School, Salisbury, Tues 2 Oct

Hot off the press is the news that this co-ed day school for pupils aged four to 16 is getting a new Head! Look up Stuart Morgan-Nash on social media and it says ‘two-time ACSMC Hill climb Champion, Dad and Headmaster…not necessarily in that order!’ – giving us the best indication about the man chosen to become the new leader of Leehurst Swan this September. Passionate about motorsport, classic cars and swimming, we hear, there are clearly many interests outside of school that fire his imagination. He comes to Leehurst Swan from three successful years as Headmaster of St Edward’s Prep School, Reading, and before that Deputy Head at Warminster School.

The flip side is that, with a mix of sadness and gratitude, Leehurst Swan is saying goodbye to Headmaster, Mr Roger Leake. Since 2006, Mr Leake has taken the school from strength to strength and overseen many developments and success. Huge thanks to him for his 12 years of dedicated service, including building The Walker Hall, a multi-purpose performance hall and music rooms, and the Centenary Building, a state-of-the art teaching block especially for Prep pupils. To top that, inspection results have seen the school graded ‘Excellent’ in every category, and ‘Outstanding’ in the Early Years.

Mr Leake will also be fondly remembered by many for developing pupils’ confidence and academic stature – helping pupils pass exams they never thought they would and realise talents in subjects they never thought possible. While they will miss him and his inspiring leadership, all associated with the school wish him the best of luck in his retirement.

Now dry your tears and read the Muddy review here and then sign up for their Open Day on 2 October.

Leehurst Swan School, 19 Campbell Rd, Salisbury SP1 3BQ. Tel: 01722 333094, leehurstswan.org.uk

Port Regis, Shaftesbury, Dorset, Sat 6 Oct

Whopping facilities, modern Swallows and Amazons-style schooling and loads of outdoor fun are all part of the package at this co-ed day and boarding school for ages two to 13. Be prepared to be wowed by walled gardens, forests and a golf course (yes!). Their next Open Day is Sat 6 October at 9.30-11.30am. We’ve also been lucky enough to pin down super-Head Stephen Ilett on his thoughts on boarding for prep school-aged kids – check out our fab new feature – Could Boarding School Be The Best Thing For Your Child? Oh, and here’s the Muddy review!
