Bird and Carter
Muddy says: For the best local produce across Wiltshire, it’s got to be Bird and Carter.
Is it a deli? Is it a catering company? Is it a fabulous caff? Nope, it’s all three and it does them pretty blooming well!
We love Bird and Carter, our go-to place for amazing catering, great local produce from the surrounding area, and a lovely cafe. First the deli – they have a fridge packed to bursting with home-cooked Wiltshire ham on the bone, smoked trout and salmon, rare roast beef, and salami, plus a fab selection of local cheese, including cheddar from Old Sarum, Godminster and Wookey Hole, to all the best stiltons and a couple of international favourites. Olives and antipasti, homemade pesto and a myriad of dips and pates can all be packaged up to take away.
You can also buy Creedy Carver free range chickens, local beef, pork, fresh milk and seasonal vegetables, and they sell loads of homemade goodies – pies, quiches, salads, all available to take away or to sample in the café. Pop in and pick up your picnic lunch to take to Wilton House in the summer, or get some suggestions for a lovely, easy and delicious four course dinner party treat.
For a ‘proper’ cafe you can’t go wrong with this gorgeous local. Think poached, fried and scrambled eggs, local bacon and sausages, and locally baked bread, all lovingly prepared in their kitchen. Veggie? They do a smashing brunch with fried eggs, roasted vine tomatoes, mushrooms and avocado on toast. Our faves are mushrooms with a hint of thyme, or the best bacon/sausage sarnie this side of my mother’s house. They also do a selection of cakes, teacakes and scones, or you can go the whole shebang and order a tiered afternoon tea. There is a play area for kids, and Oates, the resident (and very cute) spaniel will come up for a cuddle.
Need a caterer? Whatever the occasion they can cater for it, from weddings to fishing and shooting parties, from canapé receptions to christenings.
Oh, and the Café and The Hayloft are available for evening hire. It’s all here, folks!
