Candy Hair

Muddy says: Jazzing up a corner of Nailsworth is probably the coolest hair salon in the county – go and check out the rainbow-coloured Candy Hair.

Obsessed doesn’t even cover Candy’s approach to all things hair. Owner Amy, who opened the salon in August 2017, is a devotee of (and has trained under) hair guru Sophia Hilton of Brick Lane’s cult hairdressers, Not Another Salon, and this, coupled with Amy’s years wielding scissors, colour and tongs means she’s a bona fide font of all knowledge and a guru in her own right. So much so that she’s launching Candy College in 2019 to share her expertise.

But while hair at Candy is taken seriously, very seriously, that doesn’t mean there isn’t fun to be had. Just check out the salon’s Instagram feed and you’ll see. Colour! Pinks, yellows, greens, all three together! if you like to channel art-school chic, you’ll want Candy Hair on speed dial.

Even if your hair tastes are more conventional – 80 per cent of clients’ are – you can soak up the art-school vibe via the interior décor, which is the work of two artists from Damien Hirst’s Science art factory up the road. They’ve dreamed up mounted paint pots pouring bright shades down the walls, pop art-style furniture and artworks everywhere you look.

And as well as being über creative, the atmosphere is sooo friendly. I’m always a bit scared going to a new hairdressers, but I felt so at ease (read my review here), probably helped by the fact that all the clients sit in a row, so conversation flows in a way that makes you feel like you’re in a movie that’s going to pan out to all these different women’s lives in a heart-warming way. And everyone will have fabulous hair of course!
