When a business is a finalist in not one, not two, but THREE categories in our Muddy Stilettos Awards, you know it’s got to be good. Enter Fisherton Mill in Salisbury, which was shortlisted for Best Art Gallery and Best Gift Shop in 2021 and was even crowned the Best Cafe. So why do we love this multi-functional space so much?

Firstly, the setting. It’s housed inside an atmospheric Victorian mill in the centre of Salisbury, taking you away from the hustle and bustle and transporting you to a haven of impressive art, boutique shops and one of the best Victoria sponge cakes we’ve ever tasted. What’s not to love?

Secondly, the Mill hosts an impressive array of events all year round, from wreath making at Christmas to wine and cheese tasting (yes please!) to basket weaving and glass blowing. There’s something for everyone.

For art-lovers, Fisherton Mill is the South West’s largest independent art gallery and there’s an impressive array of exhibitions under the airy, high-ceilinged roof (2022 has nine in the calendar already), with new exhibitions each month. For shopaholics,  quaint markets are held in the courtyards as well artist’s studios, ranging from graphic design to calligraphy and jewellery, which are open for visitors if you fancy having a nose around at creatives at work.

For us though, it’s the cafe that’s the jewel in Fisherton Mill’s crown (hence why it won our Best Cafe award!). Offering lunch, brunch and afternoon tea, there’s a varied menu on offer, always using fresh, locally sourced ingredients and the cakes and bakes are to die for. What could be better than tucking into a freshly baked slice of chocolate fudge cake, surrounded by inspiring art by local artists? Not much, we don’t think!
