Flying Monk Brewery
Muddy says: A fabulous local boozer, The Flying Monk (named after Malmesbury’s legendary Flying Monk, no less) is a real find.
Fancy a gem of a pub with great food and truly excellent beer (well, it should be, they brew it themselves!)? Then look no further – The Flying Monk is the place for you. In fact, with The Flying Monk Brewery winning awards left, right and centre, the pub is the perfect way to showcase their beer to the local community.
Food is homely but spot on, and they rightly pride themselves on using quality local produce to match their quality local beer. Think Quinoa Salad or Potted Pork and Grilled Sourdough followed by Sausage & Mash, Style Farm Rump Steak or a good ‘ole Barnsley Lamb Chop. Oh, and a big Muddy tick must go to their Sunday Monk Roasts – choose from Fire Roasted Chicken Supreme, Slow Roasted Warminster Beef or Roasted Wiltshire Pork Belly, served with roasties, veg, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding (and Tavern Gravy, of course) all at a mere £13.95. I haven’t seen a Sunday lunch at a decent pub for less that £20 for a looooong time!
With themed dinners throughout the week and a growing yearly calendar of events (monthly Rock & Roll Bingo anyone?) this place has the feeling of a real local that isn’t out to fleece you.
And when you’re done, why not get yourself a keg from Flying Monk Brewery? This micro brewery produces some of the finest craft ales around (I love them, and I don’t even drink beer!). Take a Brewery tour and try before you buy with tasters straight from the barrel. You might want to head back for the pub after that to sample a little more…
