Harts Barn Cookery School
Muddy says: A one-stop shop for all things culinary, this cookery school in the Forest of Dean aces every base.
Cookery schools don’t come much more comprehensive than Harts Barn. The glass-fronted school surrounded by gorgeous Forest of Dean countryside offers pretty much every type of cookery class you could possible want – baking masterclasses, pasta making, BBQing, knife skills, vegetarian and vegan courses, a globetrotting tour of world cuisine – there are so many classes you could practically train as a chef! But don’t think you need to be chef level to go along – the school welcomes all abilities and teaches everything from banquets to basics to all ages from kids to baby boomers. (NB if you have a foodie in your life and are wondering what to give them for their birthday or Christmas, they do gift vouchers. Sorted!)
The light, airy space also makes a great venue for parties, which the school embraces with gusto. It’s a hen and stag do dream with a roll call of themes from Profiterole Heaven to Ready Steady Cook Challenge, and there’s a great line in kids’ parties, too – Pop & Corn, Sushi Making for Kids, Mocktails and Sweet Making anyone?
Also on the menu are monthly supper clubs, quirky and convivial affairs that feature a different culinary theme every time, including Thai, Italian and Forest Feasts. And if you’re throwing a big dinner party at home and don’t want to spend the evening sweating it in the kitchen, you can even hire a chef from the school!
