The Cricklade Club, Cricklade
Muddy says: This quirky independent café, bar and events space serves such great food and is so relaxed you’ll be wanting to make it your home from home.
It wasn’t long ago that The Cricklade Club was a working men’s club. Not that you’d know it. It would be hard to find a more chilled-out, put-your-feet-up-and-enjoy-yourself, work-free kind of place. And, well, the food – no second-rate beer, crisps and sandwiches here. Instead you’ll find modern brunch offerings such as daily scrambled eggs, pancake stacks, Buddha bowls of fresh, healthy veg and superlatively good sourdough bread, brioche, even gluten-free bread and cakes.
And when it comes to beer, it’s artisan all the way, with ten IPAs, lagers and ciders and another dozen plus craft beers and ales in the fridge. Not a beer drinker? No worries, as the bar is also stocked with a dizzying selection of premium gin and some wonderfully quaffable wine.
The interiors are homely and quirky, and very much an expression of the super-friendly, buzzing-with-ideas owners Talia, who’s been catering events since the 1980s, and Simon Maddison, who runs an events agency. With events running through their blood, they’ve also created a great venue at the back which can seat 120 and takes up to 220 standing.
So, with its all-day brunches, weekend supper club nights, über party possibilities and laid-back ambience, it’s become a firm Muddy favourite. You can read our review here.
