The King’s Hotel, Chipping Camden
Muddy says: Thumbs up to this oh so easy on the eye Cotswold town house hotel in the heart of the Cotswolds, with tip top food and some pretty snazzy rooms
I’m already pretty much in love with Chipping Camden, but the presence of The Kings Hotel nails it. A pretty, boutique town house hotel, it will feed and water you, let you sleep like a baby and then send you off fully charged for a jaunt around the Cotswolds.
Start with a drink in the cosy bar, complete with log burner, then book in to the 3 AA Rosette Jackrabbit Restaurant (they also do food at the bar) for a slap up meal of Belly of Gloucester Old Spot Pig, Shoulder of Warwickshire Lamb and Chocolate Sphere Clementine, before dropping into a comfy bed in a gorgeously designed bedroom. Think roll top baths, exposed stone walls and quirky attic rooms, and you’ll get the gist.
Dogs are welcome, so it’s an ideal gaff to stay at for walks with your four legged friend. And while you’re here, have a snoop around the independent boutiques along the charming high street, or head a little further out to Hidcote Manor Garden, All Things Wild for the kids to blow off steam, and Broadway Tower to hire an e-bike.
Perfect for weekenders with or without kids, couple escapees, visiting urbanites who you can’t put up but want to show off your ‘hood’s charms to. It would also be good for large groups, so if you’ve got a big birthday or anniversary coming up, this would be the perfect place to dine, imbibe and then flop into bed.
