The Lamb, Hindon

Muddy says: What are you waiting for? Check in to this gorgeous country pub deep in the West Wiltshire Downs with boutique-style bedrooms, great food and a seriously impressive wine list.

Rock up at the uber-gorgeous village of Hindon in the West Wiltshire Downs (an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty no less and a mere stone’s throw from mighty megolith Stonehenge) and you’ll find everything you need in a country pub.

Food includes everything from fish goujon sandwiches and black pudding scotch eggs to burgers, pan seared mackerel and 28 day aged Aberdeen Angus sirloin steak. A big tick goes to their sharer’s platters – choose from Butcher’s Board with pork pie, bbq pork ribs and chicken wings, Ploughman’s Cave, which does what it says on the tin, and Seafood Board with roll mops, potted crayfish and Jack seeded sprats. Most impressive is the Cote Du Boeuf which comes with the whole works – beef dripping roast potatoes, heritage carrots, roasted parsnips, seasonal greens, Westcombe cheddar cauliflower cheese and pan gravy, or alternatively with triple cooked chips, toasted tomatoes, mushrooms and a peppercorn sauce. Or both, if you ask nicely.

Head off to local attractions Old Wardour Castle, Salisbury Cathedral, Longleat Safari Park, Stourhead, the obligatory Stonehenge and of course a bucketload of glorious walks.
