The Parade Cinema, Marlborough

For fantastic food, luxury surroundings and all the latest flicks, The Parade is your must-visit

Who doesn’t love a trip to the cinema? There’s nothing quite like settling down on a plush seat and losing yourself for a couple of hours with your favourite actors.

For an extra-special cinematic experience, we’d like to point you in the direction of The Parade Cinema in Marlborough, which opened its doors in September 2021, almost 50 years to the day that Marlborough’s last cinema, The Electric closed.

Far from a multiplex, The Parade is housed inside the old United Reformed Chapel in the centre of Marlborough. The building was originally erected back in 1817 and has been lovingly transformed into a cinema, with the Manse next door renovated into a bar and café.

The auditorium has full surround sound and the stalls and balcony areas have comfortable armchair style seats, with tables for food and drinks and double ‘love’ seats on the back rows for date night. Private hire is available for full or part of the auditorium for parties or special events.

The Parade can seat 104 guests and shows a wide variety of films, from the latest blockbusters to live events such as the Royal Opera and Ballet, as well as foreign language and subtitles films, along with special screenings for little ones and deaf communities each week too. The cinema’s strap line is ‘Film, Friends, Food’ with something for everyone inside the impressive building.

Indeed, the snacks are something to behold. Forget what you think you know about cinema food: The Parade’s café serves homemade, delicious and seasonal food using local ingredients and has been been developed by Vaughans Kitchen in Devizes, with stone baked sourdough pizza, amazing nachos with fresh guacamole, hot dogs and sharing platters on the menu, while the fully-licensed bar is stocked with local beers and ciders, delicious wine, cocktails and soft drink, plus coffee that has been called ‘the best in Marlborough.’

They’re working to be a zero-waste business with eco-friendly food packaging, labelling, cleaning kit and supplies and they recycle/compost as much as possible.

“The Parade is a relaxed, informal and friendly place to be,” says Caroline Wrench, who is part of The Parade’s team, working on the cinema for over two years. “During the day you will find friends and family meeting for coffee and cake, grabbing some lunch before watching a film, dropping in after a dog walk or coming after school for a treat.

“The evenings are vibrant and noisy – guests enjoying drinks and food before a film, ordering a big glass of red and some snacks to to take into the film and sitting outside on our fantastic heated terrace, catching up with friends. Saturday mornings are busy with Kids Club – for our younger customers and showing classics and family favourites at a great price.”
