The White Horse Inn
We love this friendly, traditional pub, deep in the stunning Wiltshire countryside. Exactly what a pub should be!
Set deep in the beautiful Wiltshire countryside, this gorgeous freehouse has not only 4 AA stars but also 2 rosettes, is perfect for visiting Bath, Chippenham and Marlborough, and is a great base for walkers looking to explore the spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Perfect for our Muddy readers!
For all foodies out there the restaurant is impressive, serving local produce in great tasting dishes. Their weekday lunch offering is a great value set menu served alongside a full a la carte menu of pub classics and seasonal specials. They source as many ingredients locally as possible, with pork from Buttle Farm and game from Calstone Downs and Fonthill. They also source from the many small holdings in their village and can honestly say that every meal served has a touch of Compton Bassett in it! We’ve got our eye on the Crispy Pulled Pork Cheek, Maple Roasted Plum & Shallot Rings, as well as the Creedy Carver Duck Breast, Beetroot Gratin, Celeriac and Wild Mushroom Tapenade.
Planning a special occasion? If you’ve got a birthday or anniversary coming up, they can tailor a menu especially for you with all of your favourite ingredients to make your night extra special. Fancy staying over? The White Horse Inn has eight beautifully appointed rooms, all refurbished to a high standard, many of which overlook the lovely pub gardens and paddock with their resident flocks of pet geese, sheep and two pot-bellied pigs.
We particularly love their old skittle alley which has recently been converted to a multi use space for functions and private dinner parties.
