Tudor Farmhouse

Muddy says: A snug, des-res in the middle of the Forest, we can’t get enough of this boutique hotel’s super-comfy interiors and superlative food.

If you go down to the woods tonight, be sure you book into Tudor Farmhouse, a boutique retreat nestled off the beaten track in England’s magical Forest of Dean near the Wye Valley. A bit of a rare gem in this part of the world, not only will you find 20 chic bedrooms but also a fine-dining restaurant that would give many top London eateries a run for their money.

The rooms all feature fresh neutral colours, roll top baths, monsoon showers and lovely homespun touches, and the beds are the snuggliest you’re likely to find anywhere. All the rooms have been carved out of the original farmhouse and so each has a quirky style all of its own. As good for a romantic break (The Loft is the perfect hideaway for two) as a family stay, the hotel can organise foraging adventures (with Hunter wellies to borrow to boot), wild swimming expeditions complete with your own picnic hamper and cycling excursions.

And when you return in the evening, you can sink into comfy sofas by the fire, tuck into delicious local fare (everything is sourced from a 20-mile radius as far as possible) and drink in the laid-back luxury of it all. Perfect!
