Five flirty A/W fashion trends
We asked an expert to decode the new season’s more coquettish trends. Because girls just wanna have fun, don’t we?
Just because summer’s over doesn’t mean you can’t keep things fun and flirty in your wardrobe. And luckily there are some fab new autumn winter trends that just ooze sexy, good-time style. When I popped into Qetty Bang Bang in Tetbury the other day (whose clothes, accessories and shop fittings are as cool and quirky as its name), I swooned and had to be revived with smelling salts by owner and fashion lover Francesca Polley. And, having got her attention, I didn’t let her go until she told me her tips on how to inject a bit of sultry style into my look this season.
Velvet is absolutely everywhere this season – velvet tops, velvet coats – all in gorgeous, deep colours. It’s such a tactile fabric, you just want to stroke yourself when you’re wearing it, and it’s incredibly comfortable, which is key to feeling enticing and seductive. And if you want to wear it every day, Rose Rankin does some velvet trainers that will put a flirty little spring in your step!
Studio 54 here we come! The 1970s is another big trend this year and we have lots of pussy-bow blouses and long floaty dresses to get slinky in. And don’t think this look has an age cap on it – it’s really accessible for everyone. I particularly love this stunning long, devoré dress by Dixie that has a grown-up, sultry vibe that would suit all ages. And it’s a trend that’s easy to dress up or down – trainers make it nice and casual, boots toughen it up and heels take you out on a night of let-your-hair-down fun.
GLITZ & SPARKLE
This is a trend that is very close to Qetty Bang Bang’s heart – we never shy away from a bit of bling! And it’s the perfect way to inject a bit of excitement into an outfit. Whether it’s a bit of sparkle on trainers, a simple trim on knitwear or a full-on sequin dress (make way on the dance floor John Travolta!), we have glitz and sparkle covered!
FEATHERS AND FUR
This is another trend that is very much in Qetty Bang Bang’s DNA. This season think Prada vintage rather than Russian mogul and go for full-on fur with leather trim or coats trimmed with fake fur. This leopard-skin coat is to die for. Feathers are everywhere too, especially in jewellery and hair accessories.
It’s time to go large! This autumn, the more jewellery the better, so you can forget Coco Chanel’s advice about looking in the mirror and taking off one accessory before you leave the house – this season, add one! And there’s lots of lovely bling to choose from. When it comes to earrings, the bigger and/or the feathier (see feathers and fur), the better. And dig out your nan’s old pearls because they’re right on trend at the moment.
