To celebrate English Wine Week we thought we’d dig out some under-discovered gems of Wiltshire wine, and boy did we hit gold.
A boutique vineyard set on the forty-two acres of Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm north of Salisbury, Bluestone is a stunning location for a special-occasion day out. Although these days, aren’t all days out special occasions?
A family business run by brothers Nat and Toby McConnell, Bluestone has 20 acres planted to French Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier vines. Their traditional, artisan methods have totally paid off, with the long lees ageing process resulting in wine that has so much vitality and complexity. Their winning 2015 classic cuvée is a more-ish delight and certainly rivals any champagne. This summer sees the opening of their new cellar door tasing room, and the release of their sparkling rosé.
Your tour will be an informal and informative point of view from the grape grower and wine producer, learning about what it takes to produce the high quality fruit to make world class sparkling wines. You will then enjoy a tasting platter of local cheese and charcuterie, accompanied by a tutored tasting of 4 wines: three still wines from local Wiltshire producers and Bluestone’s own limited edition sparkling classic cuvée.
This is a treat for you and five friends to take the tour in the rolling Wiltshire countryside, probably with a peacock or two along for the ride. Not bad heh?
Last date for competition entries 18 July 2021.
