Autumn is in the air, so Muddy’s Violet Hudson sniffs out some upcoming treats…

NEW OPENING: The Kings Arms, Malmesbury

Muddy is v excited to announce that The Kings Arms in oh-so-charming Malmesbury has re-opened after an extensive refurbishment, putting it at the forefront of the luxury Cotswold boutique hotel game. Simon Haggarty and his wife Marianne Hofstra have between them worked at Claridge’s and The Savoy Group – so expect plenty of attention to detail, opulent interiors (think pared-back walls and surfaces with pops of luxury from exotic throws and cushions) and a Mediterranean-inspired menu. Ready to check it out?

FOOD LOVERS: Pop up suppers at Misenden

Miserden is always on our radar for its great events programme, and this season is no different, with three sensational pop-ups to tantalise your taste buds. First up is a Black Sea-themed culinary odyssey on 21 September, with a meat-free feast from Poco Culina, stuffed with Middle Eastern touches. Then on 4 and 5 October Ballymaloe-trained chef Rory Baxter will wow at the Camp Kitchen Pop Up: he honed his skills in the kitchens of Gordon Ramsey and Raymond Blanc, so expect modern-with-a-twist dishes. Finally there’s Rubols Fusion Kitchen on 25th and 26th October when cousins Ruby and Holly will combine their love of Mexican and Middle Eastern food with such delights at the ‘shawirirto’ – that’s a cross between a shawarma wrap and a burrito to you. Supper cubs start from £35pp.

MORE SUPPER CLUBS! Fabulous foodie nights at Harts Barn

Still feeling greedy? Continue your foodie journey at Harts Barn, which has two nom-inducing supper clubs coming up. Firstly there’s the Harvest Feast on 27 September: expect wild mushroom soup, nettle pesto, local pork and masses of autumn veg. Next up is the Italian Night on 25 October, featuring a hearty menu of well-loved classics. Bellissima!

NEW RESTAURANT: The amazing Sarsens in Marlborough!

Room for more? Heads up for this brand new, super cool and uber delicious joint in the heart of Marlborough. Check out Sarsens, which offers local, seasonal, sustainable fare in this quintessential market town. Their menu is divided into Foraged, Fished and Farmed sections, and the set lunch menu is fantastic value: for £28, two people can chose six plates and each enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, too. Our mouths are watering at the thought of scallops with cauliflower and sea purslane, tomatoes with vanilla, onion and basil and freshly made sourdough.

LAST CHANCE TO SEE! Cinema Under the Sky at Cowley

The end of the summer heralds the end of the open-air cinema experience, and what better place to wave it goodbye than at Cowley Manor, which will close the season with a sing-along showing of The Greatest Showman on 21st September. Warm up your vocal chords, order your picnic hamper and settle in.

BOOK AHEAD: Planning for Christmas?

It’s that time of year again (well, almost.) So it’s a good job Muddy has got your Christmas shopping sorted – check out super cool one-stop-shop the Early, Early Christmas Fair on 24th and 25th September. You can eat, chat and shop ’til you drop with an incredible range of original gifts, many sourced locally. Check out a fab range of delicatessen food, fashion and cosmetics as well as imaginative gifts for home and garden, plus loads of ideas for kids, teens and him indoors. With its beautiful interiors, sweeping double staircase & stunning Italian sunken gardens, this beautiful Victorian mansion offers true elegance & grandeur. Take time to leisurely wander through the house and grounds, enjoy a glass of fizz and sample some canapes in a truly relaxed atmosphere. We’vhree goodies for if you’re feeling run-down, or need a wellness boost ahead of the autumn proper. Tranquil Moments in Devizes is offering 20% off with their new therapist Cara throughout September. The Water House Project, London

This super-groovado supper club was started out in 2015 as a small affair in chef Gabriel Waterhouse’s home (CV: Michelin Starred Galvin La Chapelle) with the aim of making fine dining accessible. And at £80 for an eight course tasting menu, it does a pretty decent job. The supper club has grown massively and now offers a changing monthly menu- Sept’s menu includes harissa spiced lamb buns, shredded duck leg and some whacky favoured stilton and avocado sorbets, with food served in a social, non-stuffy setting. There are loads of dates from Sept – Nov, take your pick.

Craft Dining Rooms, The ICC, Birmingham

This year’s Great British Menu finalist Kay Treadwell is heading back to his hometown to chef it up at cool new restaurant Craft Dining Rooms which opened in Jul. He’ll be hosting a monthly 12 course (I hope they have doggy bags) tasting menu in his signature tongue-in-cheek take on fine dining. You’ll try newly created dishes as well as with dishes he cooked on the show including Ozzy Osbourne-inspired dish Shharonnn! and A New Romance, which was scored full marks from the judges. £75pp, 12 Sept, 10 Oct, 14 Nov. Tickets Craft Dining Rooms.
