Kick-off half term in style with our edit of the best ways to fill your weekend, from family-friendly pumpkin picking to adults-only comedy

PICK YOUR OWN: Pumpkin Carving at Roves Farm, 20-31 October

Halloween is fast approaching, so now is the perfect time to pick a pumpkin – (ie. at this point it won’t go soggy before the big day). At Roves Farm you can choose the pumpkin and carve it there too, so you won’t find pumpkin seeds all over your kitchen for the next week.

Lotmead Farm in Wanborough is also open for pumpkin picking this weekend, but do give them a call to make sure they haven’t all been picked.

LIVE MUSIC: Celebrate Voice Festival, Guild Hall Salisbury, 21-30 October

AUTUMN TRAIL: Bowood Autumn Adventure Trail, 21-31 October

Marvel at the red and gold trees in Bowood’s impressive grounds and soak up the autumnal atmosphere at this pumpkin trail, replete with scarecrows, spiders and skeletons to see along the way. Book tickets here

MINDFULNESS: Gong bath, Devizes, 22 October

Stressful week? Book into this worry-melting session which combines the tranquil chimes of gongs, crystal singing bowls and tibetan bowls , that takes place every Friday evening. The best part? EVENT: The Gin To My Tonic Festival, Swindon, 23 October

Gin fans rejoice! This festival brings together over 100 different gins from across the UK and further afield for you to sample and decide which is your favourite. The event is in partnership with Fever Tree, so expect an impressive array of mixers too. Book tickets here

CRAFT: Handprinted notepad workshop, Fisherton Mill, Salisbury, 23 October

You’ll walk away from this four-hour workshop with two new skills under your belt: bookbinding and rubber-stamping. First, you’ll be taught how to design and carve a rubber stamp (we think we’d make a monogrammed one) so you can create the cover of your personalised notepad, then you create the bound notepads to live inside the cover. Your bespoke notepad will be the envy of all your colleagues. Book here

EVENT: Chippenham Vegan Chocolate Festival and Eco Art and Craft Market, 24 October

Gone are the days when the dairy-free among us had to politely decline chocolate – there’s a whole world of plant-based treats out there now and this festival brings them together in a medley of white and milk chocolate alternatives to nibble on. There will be chocolate tasting on the day, as well as a class on how to pair chocolate with cheese. A skill we never knew we needed!
