Inspired by the legend of the flying Dutchman and the composer’s experiences of a particularly rough sea crossing, Der Fliegende Holländer was Wagner’s first step from opera to music drama – with music that seethes and rages like a terrific storm.

Glebe Gallery Opening Exhibition, Glebe Gallery, Salisbury, Thurs 7 June to Sun 10 June

Glebe Gallery holds its first exhibition showing the eclectic works of 9 British contemporary artists. Founder Flora Harvey hopes to break the barriers associated with galleries and display art in an authentic way.

Broadway Arts Festival, various locations, Broadway, Fri 8 to Sun 17 June

In the late 19th century Broadway was awash with artists, writers and musicians – and its annual arts festival channels the creative heritage of this über-pretty Cotswold village superbly. Former Labour MP and new director of the V&A Tristram Hunt will be giving a talk (calm down at the back there ladies), and there’ll also be workshops, theatre, exhibitions and activities for the kids.

Dust off that Pink Lady jacket (come on, you know you’ve got one) and jive down to Grittleton House to sing along to the coolest musical film EVER.

Middle Eastern Mezze, Natural Cookery School, The Organic Farm Shop, Cirencester, Fri 8 June

A luxury seven-course tasting menu celebrating local Cotswold produce in the lavish Greenway Hotel with a flight of wines. What’s not to love?

Star Bistro, The Garden Café, Miserden, Fri 8 June

Not only do you get fab food from Star Bistro – at the helm is head chef Joe Parke who’s worked with Michelin-starred chefs in the UK and Italy – it’s an amazing set-up that gives young people with disabilities the opportunity to get stuck into work. Go and be amazed.

Glass Angel, The Prince Albert, Stroud, Sat 9 June

Impressive on their own, when these four group together to form pop-punk masterpiece Glass Angel, well, prepare to be blown away.

RMHB FEST, Old Down Country Park, Bristol, Sat 9 June

This family-friendly festival will be jam-packed with live music including Toploader, free activities and yummy food. And if you fancy an all-nighter you can pitch up a tent and party until the sun shines, warm in the knowledge that you’re helping to raise money for kiddies being treated at Bristol Royal Hospital.
