Zap that pain
Overdone it on the sports pitch? In absolute agony? Muddy has just the solution – get ready for your massage!
I’ll confess that I’m a newbie to sports massage. One, because I’m a total loser on the sports field and two, the type of massage I prefer involves whale music and eucalyptus, ideally in a spa, let’s go for that one with mood showers, shall we?… Sorry, back on track. What I meant to say was, we at Muddy had our eyes seriously opened when we went to check out the team at Salisbury Sports Therapy. Honestly, after finding out what takes place behind these seemingly innocent barn walls, I’m half tempted to feign injury just to get my muscles massaged.
To get down to the nitty gritty, Salisbury Sports Therapy offers a progressive approach to sports massage, differing from the traditional ways of, y’know, just rubbing the bit that hurts. The magical, golden-fingered Sam combines proven techniques which help her to more accurately identify and treat the muscles that are causing problems. She then uses highly effective Muscle Activation techniques to restore your muscles to their optimum state. Which is what we like to hear!
These advanced techniques will whoop the c**p out of all kinds of problems including arthritis, ankle instability, long-standing knee pain, hip conditions, stiff neck and lower back pain as well as any sporting issues. The science is simple (it has to be, with me) – your muscles determine how you hold yourself and how you move, and this massage releases tight and dysfunctional muscles so you hold yourself as you’re supposed to, allowing your body to feel better, your strength to be restored and you generally feeling less pain.
A bit of detail for the geeks amongst us: Muscle Activation is an innovative treatment and can help resolve injuries quicker than traditional physio approaches. It brings together a number of pioneering physiotherapy, sports therapy and osteopathy techniques, and is radically changing the way Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Sports Therapists and other body workers view and treat their clients. In fact, we have asked Sam to tell us more about it as it’s so blooming cool. Over to you, Sam…
Muscle activation is an amazing new treatment which gets to the root cause of pain problems, leaving you to enjoy a stress free and, hopefully, injury free life. Pioneered by world renowned physiotherapist Doug Heel the techniques aim to restore the body to its functional best. The approach drawers on his extensive knowledge of physiotherapy and advanced anatomy, incorporating alternative techniques from Kinesiology, Rolfing and an alternative modern and more wide ranging approach to bio-mechanics called Anatomy Trains.
I interject at this point and ask for a dictionary but Sam explains: Muscle Activation works on the specific connections and relationships between muscles, tendons, bones, nerves and connective tissue throughout the body. By pinpointing not just the source of pain but also the cause, she can reactivate the compromised muscles and restore the body to its natural, healthy and energised state, often in only a few minutes. Wow, I say!
She combines this with some good old fashioned Sports Massage, and convinces me that the double attack is waaaaaay more effective than traditional Sports Massage alone. In fact, this progressive approach incorporates special techniques to instantly switch muscles back on that have been weak and achy for years. That’ll be all of mine then…
Basically, for those more simple minded of us, Salisbury Sports Massage looks at you as a whole – how you move, how you sit, how you live your life, your current stress levels. anything that could possibly affect the symptoms you display, they consider. And then they make you better. Bingo! Sounds too good to be true? Check ’em out…
