<p>Ease yourself into an indulgent afternoon at this effortlessly glam hotel. Sip and sup in the library, with its leather-bound books, at the more formal Shelburne restaurant or even out on the terrace, if the sun makes an appearance. The nosh is every bit as posh as the surroundings – think smoked salmon and Clarence Court egg mayo sarnies, strawberry tarts and the prettiest pastel macarons. Of course, you’ll get freshly-bakes scones too, with Bowood jam and lashings of clotted cream. Afternoon teas cost £33, and there’s a fabulous vegan variant for the plant-based among you. </p>

<p>This National Muddy Award winning hotel is a total gem, and its teas are pretty terrific too. Treat yourself to buttermilk scones slathered in homemade jam and clotted cream (£12), or go the whole hog and opt for the full afternoon tea (£30). Indulge in strawberry and mascarpone macarons, passion fruit cheesecake and chocolate rum mousse, alongside exquisite savouries like homemade sausage rolls and teriyaki chicken lollipops. Kids can get in on the action with the Little Angel tea (£15). Think scones with Nutella, salted caramel macarons and dinky ham sandwiches. Divine!   </p>

<p>Tea, cake and books is a pretty perfect combination, and Tisbury locals certainly agree. This high street hangout is a huge draw, thanks to its decadent bakes and welcoming atmos. Kick back with a traditional cream tea (£7.25) or The Windsor (£22), a three-tiered stand with dainty finger sandwiches, slices of cake, scones, jam and clotted cream. You’ll find over 25 loose teas to wash it down, and plenty of books to peruse too. Mums who don’t have a sweet tooth should give the savoury cream tea a go – think cheese scone, topped with cream cheese and tomato chutney. Delish!&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>From the sweeping, tree-lined driveway to the decadent drawing room, Lucknam Park is pretty fabulous. Teatime temptations come perfectly presented on tiered stands, and this is far from your average fare. Think precision-cut crusts, gently warmed scones and the daintiest patisserie. Refreshingly, there are genuinely delicious gluten free options too – just make sure you’re on the ball and book in advance. Full afternoon tea costs £44 per person.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Stepping into this 16<sup>th</sup> Century tearoom is like hopping back in time. Waiting staff glide around wearing Victorian aprons, homemade cakes are served on dainty bone china and classical music plays in the background. Tuck into the champagne afternoon tea (£40), which comes with finger sandwiches, scones and clotted cream, tartlets, cakes, meringue and half a bottle of bubbles. There’s an adorable version for small people too (£13.75), with a choice of sandwiches, cake and a glass of milkshake.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Even the scones come with a twist – choose from white chocolate and cranberry, or there are plain ones for the purists out there. Full afternoon tea costs £29, or you can go the full monty and add a glass of Tatty for £15. If you’re being treated by the family, consider booking a champagne afternoon tea (£45) in one of the decadent glass dining domes, which seat up to eight.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>For mums with young children, Woolley Grange is a sure-fire winner. Here, afternoon tea isn’t all hushed drawing rooms and pristine table manners, it’s about chilling out with your little ones in tow. Best of all, children and adults alike can munch their way through the story of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, with a tea themed around the musical (£35 adults and £15 children). Newt juice, Crunchem Hall sandwiches and Bruce Bogtrotter’s chocolate cake&#8230; sign us up. </p>

It’s run by mother-son duo Anne and John Wyles, who painstakingly source the best produce from the excellent local dairies, bakeries and ice cream parlours. The afternoon tea for two (£28) comes with decadent cakes, scones, lashings of clotted cream and of course a selection of sarnies. Hunker down in the wood-panelled drawing room and nibble on the likes of earl grey scones, green tea macarons and spiced sponge with apple compote. If you fancy giving the sweeter stuff a swerve, you’ll find sophisticated sausage rolls and savoury sandwiches aplenty too. With its wood-panelled walls, sumptuous seats and cosy lounges, this honey-hued hotel is pretty magical. It’s also well known for its fine food – the restaurant, Bybrook, has a coveted Michelin star.
