<p>With its elegantly outlandish décor and incredible food, Malmesbury’s <a href="https://www.oldbellhotel.co.uk/eat-drink/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Old Bell</a> is one of our fave haunts. Chef Leigh Evans&nbsp;has an impressive pedigree, with stints at top notch eateries, including The<strong> </strong>Royal Crescent Hotel, The Chequers and Corsham’s Methuen Arms. His food is sublime, and the set lunch is utterly bargainous at £25 for three courses. Did someone say Abbey Garden artichokes with salsa verde, followed by seared bavette steak with garlic mash? Yes they did.</p>

<p>He’s the doyen of seafood, but you don’t need to break the bank to experience one of Rick Stein’s fishy feasts. His <a href="https://rickstein.com/rick-stein-marlborough-set-menu/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marlborough restaurant</a> offers a wallet-friendly set menu, which is an absolute steal at £21.95. Dishes are simple, but impeccably cooked – think crowd-pleasers, like mussels with sorrel and cider, and salmon fishcakes with salsa verde. If you fancy pushing the boat out you can add a pud into the mix – sunken chocolate cake with clotted cream anyone? You’ll find the set menu both at lunch and in the evenings, except Saturdays.</p>

<p>Wind your way along the sleepy lanes from Calne, and you’ll discover this ancient inn, teetering high above Wiltshire’s rolling fields. With its sprawling terrace and cosy interior <a href="https://wilts.muddystilettos.co.uk/eat-out/pubs-inns/review-the-post-inn-bremhill-calne-wiltshire/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Dumb Post Inn</a> is a superb pub, in the prettiest of positions. It recently garnered a coveted spot in the <a href="https://www.ratedtrips.com/establishments/the-dumb-post-inn" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">AA Restaurant Guide</a>, and offers an epic set lunch menu for £31.95. This is far more than your standard pub grub – think smoked salmon and sundried tomato arancini, squid ink tagliatelle with pan fried cod, and caramelised brown sugar tart with peanut brittle. Word to the wise – if the weather’s looking perky, bag a table on the sun-drenched terrace.</p>

<p>Whatley Manor’s executive chef, Ricki Weston, wows foodies and Michelin inspectors alike with his winning flavour combos. For uber posh nosh, head to the Dining Room, which boasts a coveted Michelin twinkler. But if you’re after a less punchy price tag, head to <a href="https://www.whatleymanor.com/eat-drink/greys-restaurant/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Grey’s restaurant</a>, where you’ll find fab food and a friendly vibe. The set <a href="https://www.whatleymanor.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/10/Sunday-lunch-Menu_October-2022.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sunday lunch</a>, which comes in at £43.50, includes beef from the Manor (with all the trimmings of course), a smoked salmon starter and some pretty spesh desserts. Rum baba with muscovado ice cream anyone?</p>

<p>The Manor’s <a href="https://www.exclusive.co.uk/the-manor-house/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bybrook restaurant</a> recently retained its coveted Michelin Star for an eighth consecutive year, which is no mean feat. But if £145 a pop sounds too steep, hop down the lane to the hotel’s offshoot, <a href="https://www.exclusive.co.uk/the-castle-inn/food/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Castle Inn</a>. With 2 AA Rosettes under its belt, this Cotswold pub offers fabulous food at a fraction of the price. The menu flexes, but example dishes include smoked haddock scotch egg to start, and fillet of Looe hake for main. There’s currently no set menu, but expect starters to set you back around £10, and mains around the £25 mark.</p>

<p>This city centre restaurant has garnered winning rave reviews thanks to its creative dishes and stunning presentation. Ingredients are largely local, with innovative sharing plates inspired by the seasons. Dishes include chalk stream trout ceviche, roast cod with nori and oyster mushrooms and asian BBQ pig cheeks, all for a purse-pleasing £13-£15. The standout dessert has to be the tasting selection, which includes a mini chocolate marquise, coconut cheesecake and apple mille fuille.&nbsp;Delish!</p>

<p>With a triple AA Rosette to its name and high praise in the Michelin Guide, this pretty thatched pub in <a href="https://wilts.muddystilettos.co.uk/things-to-do/best-restaurant-wilts-the-red-lion-east-chisenbury/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">East Chisenbury</a> is definitely worth a visit.&nbsp;For £65 you get a whopping five courses, which is well worth it given the superb quality of the cuisine. Sample dishes include Orkney scallops (yum), Salisbury Plain venison with pickled blackberries and Guinness cake, with condensed milk ice cream. Sold!</p>

<p>This coaching inn is lauded by locals, thanks to its cosy atmos and fab food. Keep an eye out for the monthly supper clubs – think five courses, often focused around game or fish. Recent delights include venison en croute, brill with salsify and scallops with chorizo and black pudding. It’s a set menu, with a fixed price usually around £49.</p>

<p>With its honey-hued stone, Georgian frontage and sprawling grounds, you half expect Mr Darcy to come striding over the lawns at Bishopstrow. It’s quintessentially English, and tons of the restaurant ingredients come direct from the glorious no-dig kitchen garden. Uber posh nosh and private dining are an option, but there’s also a tempting <a href="https://www.bishopstrowhotel.com/media/yvyeqsts/set-lunch.pdf">set lunch menu</a> at the Garden Grill – a snip at £30 for three courses. Expect dishes like chicken liver parfait, slow cooked shoulder of Wiltshire lamb and west country cheeses.</p>
