<p>Whether you’re hunting down the perfect fireside red, a celebration white or a crowd-pleaser that won’t break the bank, choosing wines can feel like a minefield. So, we’ve called in the big guns. Wiltshire-based winemaker Clem Yates is one of the world’s few female Masters of Wine and the force behind award-winning English Pink rosé, which is produced in Somerset. From festive feasts to parties and sofa suppers, Clem knows exactly what to pop, pour and save for yourself. Here are her top wines for winter, including the best red for under £10. Gordon Ramsay Intenso Rosso</h2><div class="giftguide-body"><p><strong>Price:</strong> £8.75</p><p><strong>Tasting Notes:</strong> Gordon Ramsay produces two wines and his red, Intenso Rosso is sourced from Italy. This wine came top in The Drinks Business global masters tasting and is the best red wine you will find under £10. It has a bright fresh nose of red and black fruit, with mulberry and blueberry flavours on the palate, and finishes with a flinty, savoury note that balances out the juicy weight. The tannins are also well balanced for an Italian red wine. I know the label isn’t great but seriously this wine is really worth a try. Antinori Cervaro della Sala 2023</h2><div class="giftguide-body"><p><strong>Price:</strong> £32</p><p><strong>Tasting Notes:</strong> Italy&#8217;s white wines have improved dramatically and the Antinori family is famous for producing iconic reds like Tignanello (a firm favourite with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex). However for those who like a bit of oak character in their wine, this Chardonnay is one of my favourites. Covepoint Pinot Noir</h2><div class="giftguide-body"><p><strong>Price:</strong> £14.49</p><p><strong>Tasting Notes:</strong> Back in the UK, the wine production scene is booming and the Pinot Noir wines from award winning winery Lyme Bay are well worth stocking up on for winter. English Pinot Noirs are developing a reputation for high quality and, with a focus on the Burgundian style, they offer great value for money when compared to the French equivalent. The Cove Point Pinot Noir has all the qualities of the sell-out Lyme Bay Pinot Noir, for half the price. A lifted nose of wild raspberry fruit jumps out of the glass with layered red fruit flavours and a hint of cracked black pepper spice. I adore the Assyrtiko grape, and this is a very well-done example for a reasonable price. It&#8217;s un-oaked, but packed with flavours of ripe peach and citrus fruits. Customers rave about how much nicer it is than traditional red mulled wine, and it completely sold out last year. It comes packed in a 1.5L pouch, which you just pour into a pan and gently heat &#8211; perfect for a party. It&#8217;s made using premium English Pink rosé, which is mulled over summer, ready for release in September. This tea is full of tropical fruit flavours, but balanced with a slight dry tannin and long-lasting hint of jasmine.
