And relax! 12 of the best luxury spas in and around Wiltshire

You’ve survived the summer, the kids are back at school, and that means it’s time for a serious spot of pampering. Whether you want to grab your besties or go it alone, here’s our pick of the very best spas in Wiltshire and beyond. Robes at the ready!

WILTSHIRE

The Spa at Bowood, Calne

Bowood spa

Bowood isn’t all about pirate ships and playgrounds, there’s also a fab spa in the hotel. You’ll find a pool with parkland views, hot tub, steam room, rock sauna and aromatherapy showers. There’s also a sumptuous relaxation area, ideal for reading or having a cheeky snooze. Many of the treatments use products from award-winning British brand TEMPLESPA, which smell divine and act wonders on the skin. Unusually, there’s an adapted treatment menu for clients who are medically frail too.

Muddy top pick: Bowood offers loads of spa days (twilight spa, afternoon tea spa, lazy Sunday spa….) but our fave has to be the brunch option (£125). What better way to kick off your day than wallowing in a hot tub and sinking into a 30 minute treatment. You’ll get a full brunch thrown in, at The Shelburne Restaurant, plus a glass of fizz. Heaven!

Lucknam Park Spa, Colerne

Lucknam Park Spa

Lucknam’s spa is gorgeous, and the cherry on the cake is the fabulously oversized hydrotherapy pool, which connects to the indoor pool. Once you’ve finished floating between the two, chill out in the saunas, aromatic steam room, Japanese salt room (the heated loungers are heavenly) or Amethyst Room (there’s a huge crystal in the ceiling). The stunning 20-metre indoor pool is flanked with tons of comfy loungers. If you’re feeling flush, why not make a night of it – with a Michelin-starred restaurant, 500 acres of parkland and a stable of glossy-flanked horses to ride, there’s more than enough to keep you busy.

Muddy top pick: There are tons of spa days on offer, ranging from half day getaways to the full monty. Top billing has to go to the spa and dine package (from £170), which includes a three-hour spa sesh, followed by a three-course Michelin starred meal at Restaurant Hywel Jones. Bliss!

Aqua Sana Spa, Longleat

Aqua Sana Spa, Longleat

With multiple awards under its belt, Aqua Sana is a local fave. It offers tons of experiences to explore too, from the Nordic sauna and ice cave, to outdoor hot tubs, experience showers, reflexology footbaths and a cosy snug, with flickering firepit. There’s also a circular outdoor pool – the whole shebang is designed to blend in with the surrounding forest and embrace nature.

Muddy top pick: In need of some serious r&r? The Forest Rejuvenation Day (£199) includes a 50-minute back massage, all-day spa access and lunch in Vitalé Café Bar. With 25 different spa experiences on offer, there’s more than enough to fill the hours.

Aquarius Spa, Whatley Manor Hotel, Malmesbury

Whatley Manor

Whatley Manor may be in a knockout Cotswold setting, but it’s also got one of the best spas in the country. With epic treatments to boot, this makes it a Muddy fave. The lovely Aquarias Spa has an indoor / outdoor hydrotherapy pool, tepidarium with heated stone recliners, salt scrub showers, thermal cabins and wave dream sensory room. Phew!

Muddy top pick: In need of an autumn boost? Try the Sothys Full Day Spa Retreat (£220). With a 75-minute facial, 75-minute massage and light lunch thrown in, it’s utterly dreamy.

Woolley Grange, Bradford-on-Avon

Woolley Grange spa

Full disclosure – this is a family-friendly hotel, so we can’t promise a child-free day. However, you will find a petite but perfectly-formed spa, nestled in the pretty walled garden. As well as an indoor pool, there’s a sauna, steam room and (in the summer months) heated outdoor pool. Many of the treatments use divinely-scented products by beloved Wiltshire brand, Bramley.

Muddy top pick: Zone out with ‘All About You.’ You get a full day to hit the spa plus three (yes three) 55 minute treatments. Oh, and either lunch or afternoon tea are included too. Heaven!

Vitality Day Spa, Bradford-on-Avon

Vitality Spa

More of a wellness sanctuary than a hotel-type spa, Vitality is a haven dedicated to natural face and body treatments. From the iced herbal tea and footspa on arrival to expertly-administered pampering, the whole experience is designed with total relaxation in mind. Massages are their speciality, and there is an extensive menu to choose from, including pregnancy massage, hot stone therapy and body scrubs.

Muddy top pick: Grab your bestie and head over there for The Diamond package (£395), a two-person, four-hour session that includes a full body scrub, hot stone massage, body wrap and facial. You may not have access to swanky steam rooms, but you will have expertise, personal attention and charm.

Bishopstrow House Hotel, Warminster

Bishopstrow House Hotel pool

Bishopstrow’s pretty outdoor pool makes this a great shout on a sunny day. Inside, you’ll find a second pool, alongside a steam room, sauna, hot tub and monsoon shower. It may not have bells and whistles when it comes to facilities, but the treatments are top notch. Plus you’ll find Dyson hairdryers and gorgeous Bramley products in the changing rooms!

Muddy pick: Top billing has to go to the Siesta Spa Experience (£130), which includes an afternoon in the spa, 60-minute treatment and afternoon tea in the restaurant. Think light, fluffy scones and delicate sandwiches – yum!

SOMERSET

Thermae Bath Spa, Bath

Thermae Bath Spa

Floating in the warm, mineral-rich, natural spring waters in Thermae Spa’s open air rooftop pool is one of Bath’s must-do experiences. Situated right in the city centre, the spa has six floors, 26 treatment rooms with over 40 complementary wellness therapies, a six area multi-sensory Wellness Suite and four thermal baths, including the standalone Cross Bath, an 18th century open air bathing pool.

Muddy top pick: The Twilight package (£55) is pretty spesh. Wallow in the giant rooftop pool as you watch the sun set over beautiful Bath, then explore the multi-sensory wellness suite. The session includes towels, robes, a sharing platter and wine. Bliss!

The Spa & Bath House at the Royal Crescent Hotel, Bath

Royal Crescent hotel

The five-star Georgian Royal Crescent Hotel sits slap bang in the middle of the city’s iconic 18th century Royal Crescent, one of Bath’s most iconic spots. Set in the hotel’s pretty gardens, The Spa & Bath House is oh-so-elegant. It houses a 12m relaxation pool, vitality pool with massage jets, Himalayan salt-infused sauna and herbal steam inhalation room. Treatments use TEMPLESPA products, and there’s plenty of space to relax afterwards in the gorgeous Mediterranean-styled walled garden.

Muddy top pick: The Taittinger Mini Escape (£175) gives you time to spa, and explore Bath. Sip a glass of Taittinger and nibble truffles on arrival, before settling into a 60 minute treatment. You get an hour to kick back and relax in the spa too.

GLOUCESTERSHIRE & HAMPSHIRE

C-Side Spa at Cowley Manor, near Cheltenham

Cowley Manor

Beloved by locals and out of towners alike, the spa at this stunner of a country house hotel will make your jaw drop with its floor-to-ceiling windows and immaculate Cotswold surroundings. Seriously, this is proper ‘ta-da’ stuff! A 17-metre slate lined indoor pool, stunning outdoor pool, drench showers, sauna, steam room and eye-catching spots to relax make it perfect for an escape with your besties, your lover or just you.

Muddy top pick: Up for splashing out? It’s got to be the Daylight Spa (£210). Relax with a coffee, then spend a full day recharging in the spa. At some point you’ll need to summon the energy for a 90 minute treatment, and the appetite for a two-course lunch. Bliss!

Calcot Manor, Tetbury, Glos

This is about as quintessentially Cotswolds as it gets – all that gorgeous honey stone, lavender beds and rolling countryside. The spa is a bucolic retreat, with headline facilities including an indoor heated 16m pool, sauna, steam room, seven treatment rooms and relaxation lounge. But the main event has to be the huge al fresco hot tub, which nudges up to a gorgeous outdoor fireside.

Muddy top pick: The Half Day package (£175) includes a 55-minute treatment, full access to the spa and plenty of time to make the most of that outdoor hot tub. When all that hard work makes you peckish, tuck into a light lunch in the Brasserie.

Lime Wood Hotel, Lyndhurst, Hampshire

Lime Wood Hotel

Lime Wood is known for laid-back luxe which combines beautifully with the nature-immersed, indoor-outdoor vibe throughout the Herb House spa kitted out with sauna, bubbling indoor lap pool and outdoor hot pool, Mud House 10 treatment rooms, Hands and Feet room and gym. Merging beautifully with the leafy New Forest setting, the floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the woods, connecting you with nature as you mindfully loaf.

Muddy top pick: If you prefer to choose the treatment in your package, the Bespoke Spa Day (£240) has to be the winner. Relax in the pools, detox in the forest sauna and enjoy a 60-minute treatment of your choice. You’ll get lunch in Raw & Cured too.
