Bowood House, Bowood

Muddy says: The most positively perfect place for a day out with the kids, with gardens to die for and adventure playgrounds galore

Bowood House and Gardens. Ah, now you’re talking. Truly, one of Muddy’s fave days out in Wilts, with stunning parkland, acres and acres of gorgeousness for the Mudlets to run around in and loads of fab events.

Home of the Marquis and Marchioness of Lansdowne, Bowood House is set within 100 acres of landscaped ‘Capability’ Brown parkland – think an Italian-inspired Terrace Garden, Private Walled Gardens and herbaceous border, bursting with colour throughout the seasons. There’s an arboretum  leading down to the mile long lake and for kids, an adrenaline-fuelled Adventure Playground featuring a life size pirate ship, plus a soft play for younger ones.

We particularly love the Woodland Gardens, open for 6 weeks during the flowering season (April to early June 2020). Covering over 30 acres, it’s an oasis of bluebells, azaleas, magnolias and rhododendrons and, believe it or not, is considered to be one of the most exciting gardens of its type in the country with over 30 hardy hybrids, which were thought to be extinct.

Watch this space for a range of exciting events happening in 2020!
