Discovery and experimentation is their thing, rather that one particular country or type, with a vast selection of lesser-known bottles.

Approachable owner Leanne certainly knows her stuff, so make the most of it and let her guide you. With a background in nutritional bio-chemistry she’s an expert taster – indeed she’s tasted every single product in the shop (what a job!).

Interestingly, when choosing wine she likes to look at the label first – this is, after all, how we all buy. Other considerations are the type of producer and ethos, favouring small, family-run vineyards that won’t appear in the supermarket. The other factor is of course taste, and she has a special talent for remembering what’s she’s tasted.

Her top wine hack for now? Portugal. The grapes are likely to be unfamiliar indigenous types, and many are blends, so don’t get hung-up on recognising them, just give them a try. While not super-cheap, you’ll definitely get more for your money than with other European wines of the equivalent price.

Warning: her infectious enthusiasm, great knowledge and obvious passion for wine are an intoxicating mix that may lead to you buying more than you came for. But no matter, it’ll all be top stuff you won’t regret. Although wine’s the thing here, with a choice of over 200 from around £6.99, there’s also a good selection of craft beers and spirits.

There’s a nicely done-out upstairs room where private wine tastings can be booked – generally for groups of around six people at a time, with grazing boards from the local cheese shop if you fancy. We reckon it would be great spot for a hen party or reunion of old mates.
