Kids Arcade

Muddy says: On a mission to bring super cool, stylish kids’ clothes to the countryside, we can’t get enough of this pop-up shopping sensation.

The brainchild of the very chic ex-glossy magazine picture editor Rachel Bisiker, Kids Arcade is her answer to that clarion call of so many mothers “Give us some decent kids’ clothes to spend our money on!”. Because, frankly, there’s only so much Mothercare and M&S a woman can endure – which makes the arrival of her Kids’ Arcade pop-ups something akin to a visit from your fairy godmother of fashion.

Rachel has a trained eye for cool design – and also labels that have a heart-warming story, often with a mother or two at the centre of it. When Muddy went to the pop-up’s third edition at The Bull Hotel Fairford, we got talking to the owners of the fabulous Wildchild London (you NEED to check out their funky unisex t-shirts, leggings, sweatshirts and joggers), which was started by two mums who wanted to bring a spark of quirky fun to their own children’s wardrobe. We hesitated to ask Five Boys co-owner Sophia what inspired the name of her label, a super cool collection of tops, bottoms, sleepwear and swimwear for boys. “Do you have (*gulp*) five boys?” Four it turns out, but hey, that’s enough!! Outside the Lines, meanwhile, fulfils all mothers’ dreams of dressing their girls in something dreamy. In fact, if they could organise an adults’ line please…

We could go on – in fact, we’re staggered by how many incredible, small and emerging labels Rachel brings together in her pop-ups. It’s like a speed dating party where you want everyone to be your new boyfriend. They’re all online, of course, but it’s so good to meet them up close and personal. Swoon!

Keep an eye on the Muddy What’s On guides for future pop-ups – and then, step away from the high street, shopping for kids’ clothes just got fun!
