It’s a long old summer lying ahead but guess what? We’ve only gone and solved all your boredom and what-to-do-with-the-kids problems. In fact, we’re just about to upgrade your lives, Mudsters, ‘cos we’ve discovered the fab-tastic Marlborough College Summer School – a 4-week programme packed with learning experiences and entertainment the whole family can enjoy. 2019 dates run 14 July – 10 August.

Recently recognised as one of the South West’s top Artistic, Cultural and Learning Experiences, the Summer School caters for kids from 3 years to 90, and it is this span of the generations that makes it super special. In fact, its uniqueness in combining all ages in family groups, groups of friends and individuals creates a real holiday atmosphere in the beautiful setting of this tip top (and unbelievably gorgeous) boarding school. Choose from week-long day camps (choose one course in the mornings and another in the afternoons) or residential jaunts for the whole family – there is something for everyone here.

Right, us grown ups first…Fancy arts & crafts? Landscape and architecture? Literature and creative writing? History, music, dance, theatre and film, technology and computing, life skills, sport, country pursuits…? Or what about a course on Writing and Illustrating Books for Children, Tennis, Sustainability, British Political History, Astronomy, Needle Felting, Ballet for Beginners or Fitcamp…Shall I go on or have you already signed up? Outdoor courses include Horse Riding, Tennis, Road Cycling, Metal Detecting: Discover History Beneath Your Feet, A Week of Foraging, Outdoor Adventures and LOADS more! There are over 400 courses for adults so it might take you a while to decide.

Kids are split into Junior Troopers, Children’s Activities, Young Adventurers and Teenagers, with a bonkers amount of action-packed courses to choose from including Cricket, Clay Shooting, Martial Arts, Dance Fusion, Drama, Fencing, Water Polo, Adventures in Clay, Beginners Harp and Stay Alive Survival. While there’s plenty of the obvious, the majority of courses are designed to offer your little ones experiences they’ve never tried before.

Evenings here ain’t too shabby either – spend time together as a family enjoying a range of entertainment including cinema, sports and live music, or pack the Mudlets off for supervised evening entertainment including BBQs, treasure hunts, discos or getting soaked on the waterslides while you chillax. Gala Performances take place every Tuesday and Friday evening and the line-up ranges from ‘An Evening with Claire Balding’ to Illyria’s outdoor theatre production of ‘Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves’. There will also be musical performances from the Counterfeit Stones and The Magic of Motown. Jeez, I’m not gonna want to leave this place.
