Rush Skatepark
Muddy says: If you’re looking for a blast of wheely good fun, this award-winning skatepark in Brimscombe near Stroud will get the pulse racing!
Who would have thought the outlying Stroud village of Brimscombe would be the location for the largest indoor skatepark in the world? And quite a destination it is. Family-run and family-friendly (and sponsored by no less than cool clothing giant Superdry), it’s no gangsta hangout (there’s a strict zero tolerance policy to drink, drugs and bullying), but is still your über-hip hangout. Offering a unique rider experience for BMXs, scooters, skateboards and aggressive skates, the fully-marshalled, 40,000 sq ft park offers a street section, park and bowl sections, jump track, foam pit and resi. (Had to look that last one up – it’s a ramp. I know, I’m embarrassing…)
But the park does get plenty of silver surfers (there are special ‘silver surfer’ evening sessions for the over 30s on the last Friday of every month), as well as kids. And if you’re a parent and just want to watch your offspring fly round the park, there’s an impressive viewing platform where you can enjoy a bevvie and/or bite from the café, which, where possible, uses local producers (Nom Nom Cupcakery and Thrupp Bakery make all the cakes.)
Saturday and Sunday mornings are open to complete beginners aged five and over and there are also coaching sessions (group and one-to-one) with highly skilled, fully trained and CRB-checked coaches, who take on all levels from beginners to competition level pros.
The skatepark also makes an awesome party venue with a package that includes 1 ½ hours riding, a party table of café food from a set menu (you can bring your own birthday cake), invites and a free return pass for the birthday host.
