The Grapes’ so-stylish interior – it feels like a London members club – at once belies it’s roots as the oldest pub in town and also embraces them in the cosiness of its welcome. Black alcove shelving, pendant lights, dusky-hued paints and mis-matched vintage glasses set the scene for anything from a morning cinnamon bun (the highlight of lockdown) to an out out night of cocktails or special occasion dinner.

Downstairs is more informal with a bar and casual dining of perfect pub classics: burgers, fish and chips, crispy squid, and upstairs more of a fine dining set up with a modern British menu to match. Sunday lunch is a hit, with booking essential. All their offerings are classy, creative and delicious.

Imaginative cocktails are a strength, made by friendly staff who know their stuff, with Espresso Martinis a favourite.
