Here at Muddy we not only love to support local, we also think it’s super important to support businesses that sell environmentally-aware products – and Under the Stairs
is both of these, with bells on! From material and supply. to production, manufacture and waste, to shipping and packaging this company is as earth-conscious as possible, and they are committed to be even better.
Under The Stairs, a beautiful collection of linen based textiles, is the creative darling of Lorna and her sister-in-law Georgie who design, print, sew and sell a range of future-friendly home textiles, inspired by the insects and animals who share our planet, and with a determined focus on environmental sustainability. Choose from a fab range of tea towels, aprons, table runners, napkins, hob covers and cushions, all in gorgeous bucolic designs.
Linen is their primary fabric of choice as it is one of the most future friendly fabrics currently available, using less water and chemicals during its production than cotton as well as being renowned for its longevity. Plus, it looks and feels great! We love their chef-style aprons (perfect for Father’s Day) and delightful cushions. For true luxury check out their double velvet cushions.
Onto saving the planet…More and more people are looking to make better, more environmentally-conscious choices about home furnishings, textiles and gifts. Of course, it’s tough to be 100% sustainable or ethical but Under the Stairs believes in making things that are both functional and beautiful, using methods and materials with a reduced carbon, water and waste footprint. Things that are designed to last, and that do a little bit better by the planet. They print with eco-friendly, organic ink, their zips are made from recycled drinks bottles, they use recycled polyester thread, their cushions are filled with ethically sourced duck down, and all of their labels and packaging are produced on recycled paper. Oh, and their products contain not one iota of new plastic – they are vigilant about re-using and recycling as much as possible.
**** During lockdown, they are very aware of hand hygiene during production and packaging and are currently using Royal Mail to deliver items. Those items that usually require a signature are trackable but do not need to be signed for. If this service discontinues at any point during the lock down they are more than happy to deliver by hand (within 20 miles of Warminster) maintaining social distancing guidelines during the delivery.
