Wild Herb Cafe, Bradford on Avon
Expect delicious seasonal food in this funky inside-outside cafe in Holt, perfect for breakfast, lunch & drinks at any time of year.
On the site of the county’s funkiest small business workspace, The Glove Factory in Holt (between Bradford-on-Avon and Melksham) you’ll find one of our fave cafes. The Glove, as it’s known round here, has housed various groovy cafes over the years, but this latest is by far and away the best, as you might expect if you’ve experienced their sister joint, the beloved Mes Amis cafe & deli in Beckington, near Frome.
Everything we’ve tried (and we’ve tried a lot) has been tip-top quality, from the legendary breakfast brioche to the lunch dals, curries, pies, soups and salads and the spectacular cakes. Most is homemade by chef and co-owner James Scott, and everything else is impeccably sourced, such as the Village Baking Co fresh breads. Together with partner and co-owner Sian, the couple pledge to exceed expectations. And believe us, they really do.
Coffee is excellent, and they even have a licence, with wines & beers on offer. Settle in the cosy marquee, with log burner, blankets and fresh flowers, or take your grub outside by the immense fire pit. Gorgeous bucolic views over the Glove fields and swimming pond are perfect at any time of year, and appreciated by the hipster Glove workers, cold water swimmers, walkers and foodie locals. Refreshingly, no bookings are required and kids and dogs are most welcome.
They also do outside catering for that special occasion. We’re desperate to try this out for the next Big Birthday.
