<a href="https://www.longleat.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Longleat</a> is embracing winter this month, with a packed half term programme. You&#8217;ll find a 10ft inflatable toboggan slide, snowboard simulator, plus an interactive snowglobe. Kids can also make everything from bird feeders to bookmarks, aided by Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. Great news &#8211; the much-loved Bat Cave is also reopening for 2025, plus there&#8217;s the usual safari action. This month <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wiltshire/the-courts-garden" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Courts Gardens</a> in Holt reopens on weekends, and it’s well worth a visit. You’ll find a fab mud kitchen in the forest school area, as well as ponds and a pretty arboretum to explore.



At the Hawk Conservancy Trust, our feathered friends are busy strutting their stuff. For something a little bit different, head over on the evening of 22 Feb for Owls by Moonlight. The owls will be shaking their tail feathers with two night flying displays, plus there&#8217;s a chance to get up close and meet them. Over at <a href="https://choldertonrarebreedsfarm.com/events/">Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm</a>, you’ll find everything from a silent disco (14th Feb) to comedy magic shows, balloon making and a visit from Paw Patrol. The gang at <a href="https://rovesfarm.co.uk">Roves Farm</a> are throwing open their doors over half term and inviting visitors to admire their tiny Poll Dorset lambs. You’ll find bottle feeding sessions throughout the day, tractor rides, indoor and outdoor play and even the chance to groom a guinea pig. In <a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wiltshire/lacock/visiting-lacock-with-family" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lacock</a>, half term sees the Spring Flower Count kick into action, plus activities with the brilliant Wiltshire Scrapstore. Pick up free spotters’ sheets from the Visitor Reception and encourage the kids to see how many plants they can spot, from daffodils to snowdrops and hellebores.



<a href="https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/wiltshire/stourhead" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Stourhead</a> is gorgeous any time of year, but it’s particularly fabulous in Feb, when the snowdrops are out in force. This year, there’s also the chance to peek inside the house itself, including the attic and basement rooms. One for younger kids &#8211; there&#8217;s also a free, frog-themed activity trail around the lake. 



Always wanted to get up close and personal to Stonehenge? There are a still a handful of tickets available for the Stone Circle Experience this half term. This is a pretty magical chance for the kids to wander amongst the stones. It also makes for fab insta ops! We may be a few hundred miles from the slopes in Wilts, but kids can still hone their snow skills at <a href="https://southwiltsski.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">South Wilts Ski Club</a>. This is giant a state-of-the-art ski simulator, designed to fast track their technique. Every session comes with a professional instructor, making it an ideal way to get ahead before you hit the slopes for real. Calling all budding swimmers! Stonar school Stonar is opening its pool for a weekend of top level training from ex-Olympian silver medalist Chris Walker-Hebborn. The swim camp runs on 15 and 16 Feb, and is suitable for kids aged 8-14. If your brood fancy giving climbing a go, The Arc in Chippenham runs fab courses for children age 6-15, including taster sessions over half term. If you fancy getting in on the action too, there are family sessions on 17 and 21 Feb too. Word to the wise: watch out for the parking system, which films you entering and leaving the car park. 



How about an escape room? Give Dino Deadlock a whirl, over at M4 Escapes. Can you and the kids escape the Jurassic kingdom when disaster strikes? This one is billed as non-scary, but it&#8217;s more suitable for 12+ and under 16&#8217;s need an adult to accompany them. Axe-throwing and archery are bound to appeal to most kids, and Wiltshire Outdoor Learning are offering half term sessions on 22 Feb (plus a few over the border in Frome on 16th). Sessions are suitable for a range of ages, and held at their Brokerswood site. Petrolhead in the family? Let them rev it up over at M4 Karting, where kids can use the karts from aged 8 or minimotos (small motorbikes) from 15. Younger kids up for getting musical? On 18 Feb, there’s a two-hour music making workshop at The Salberg, in partnership with Salisbury Area Young Musicians. The emphasis is firmly on fun – anyone age 7-11 is welcome and you don’t need to be a budding Beethoven. One for musically-minded kids. On 22 Feb, Kanda Bongo Man comes to Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon. Expect high tenor vocals, a 9-piece band, energetic dancers and a giant of African music. <a href="https://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk/event/kanda-bongo-man/">Tickets</a> from £13.



If you’re after a family orchestral fix, head to Salisbury Cathedral on 14 Feb. Conductor Edward Rimmer will be joined by 8 singers and instrumentalists, to celebrate Henry Purcell by candlelight. Any Ed Sheeran fans in the family? Ok, so you might not be able to catch the real deal, but <a href="https://trafalgartickets.com/wyvern-theatre-swindon/en-GB/event/music/shape-of-you-the-music-of-ed-sheeran-tickets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Shape of You </a>is a pretty decent stand-in. Expect a live band and great vocals from this live performance at Swindon&#8217;s Wyvern Theatre on 19th Feb.

Keen to show the kids a piece of cracking theatre action? Head to Salisbury Playhouse, for Alfred Hitchcock’s iconic spy thriller, The 39 Steps. This Olivier and Tony Award-winning comedy had an impressive 10-year run in the West End, and now it’s back on tour. It sees four talented actors play over 150 characters – not sure how that works, but it clearly does! Head to the Wyvern Theatre&#8217;s Spotlight room on 23 Feb, for a fun, free drama workshop for kids aged 6-9. This is a light intro to acting and storytelling &#8211; they&#8217;ll make silly characters and funny scenes. Best of all, it&#8217;ll cost you nothing. The Pound is putting on screenings of Inside Out 2 and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice over half term. Head to Corsham on 18 for Inside Out, and on 19 to catch Tim Burton&#8217;s epic. The Festival of Tomorrow heads to Swindon this month, and it’s packed with over 150 (mostly free) events to intrigue young minds. Choose from <a href="https://www.festivaloftomorrow.com/the-festival/whats-on/">bubble workshop</a>s, STEM-inspired <a href="https://www.festivaloftomorrow.com/the-festival/whats-on/">comedy acts</a>, <a href="https://www.festivaloftomorrow.com/the-festival/whats-on/">insect collage</a> workshops and an immersive <a href="https://www.festivaloftomorrow.com/the-festival/whats-on/">piano concert</a> from Charlie Hooper-Williams, one of the developers of Shazam. You’ll find mind-blowing <a href="https://www.festivaloftomorrow.com/the-festival/whats-on/">science shows</a> plus intriguing talks, including a deep-dive under the Antarctic. At STEAM, there&#8217;s also the chance to gawp at Luke Jerram’s Gaia. This six-metre installation is a great chance to see the earth floating in three-dimensions. 



Fancy getting creative with the kids? The Little Pottery Painting Co in Royal Wootton Bassett is running pottery painting sessions throughout half term. Join forces with the family to decorate your pottery of choice &#8211; you&#8217;ll also find fab homemade cakes to help you get into the creative spirit. Expect balloon modelling workshops, face painting, shows and crafts. No need to book, just turn up &#8211; it&#8217;s held at Harlequins Football Club. 



Any Gruffalo lovers out there? Head to The Wyvern in Swindon for a free activity session, run by award-winning storyteller<a href="https://www.reallyratherwild.com/"> Kate Claxton</a>. After an interactive storytelling, they&#8217;ll create their own Gruffalo nature viewer and get stuck into a Gruffalo game or two.
