For a whirlwind ride of humour and heartbreak, head to Salisbury Playhouse this month. The award-winning Stones in His Pockets is a brilliant two-mantragicomedy about a Hollywood movie filmed in a rural Irish town, and it doesn’t disappoint. <a href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/stones-in-his-pockets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Book now</a>, to find out why it’s getting such rave reviews.



You’ll know Jay Rayner from MasterChef and BBC Radio 4’s Kitchen Cabinet, but it turns out he’s also a pianist. The man of many talents comes to Wiltshire Music Centre on 19th October, along with a sextet of musicians on sax, bass, guitar, drums and vocals. They’ll be playing jazzy 80’s pop, <a href="https://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk/event/the-jay-rayner-sextet/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tickets</a> from £14.

Jazz hands at the ready! Nip to Salisbury from 22nd October, when Play On! comes to town. This is a contemporary reimagining of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in 1940s Harlem, Cotton Club era. <a href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/play-on" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tickets</a> from £16.



Meanwhile, Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre is going mad for music this month. Keen to know your plies from your pirouettes? Head to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on 8th October, when the Imperial Ballet comes to town. They’ll be performing the Nutcracker, alongside a live orchestra. Tickets from £35.

Meanwhile, Marlborough’s <a href="https://www.theparadecinema.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Parade Cinema</a> has some stellar ballet and opera action this month. Choose from The Royal Opera’s Wolf Witch Giant Fairy (ideal for families) on 27th, Othello on 6th or The Royal Ballet’s Alice in Wonderland on 20th. While you’re there, grab a hot dog or cocktail (or both) at the fab café.



Every year, Marlborough’s famous high street is transformed into a giant funfair, with rides taking over for two weekends – you’ll find the “Little Mop” fair on 5th, and the “Big Mop” on 12th. This extravaganza is adored by locals, which isn’t surprising given the tradition stretches back over 800 years.

Arm candy alert! Muddy Award-winning jeweller Corinne Whillock is known for her fabulous masterclasses, and on 13th October she’ll teach you how to make solid silver stacking bangles. They can be plain or textured, round, rectangular – you decide! Materials are provided, as is lunch. There must be something in the air. Over in Melksham, the fabulous Arie &amp; Vine is throwing an autumnal wreath making masterclass on 12th. Jade’s creations are stunning and you’ll be using gorgeous dried flowers, so these are set to last. Calling all chocoholics! Hollychocs near Devizes has some fab courses this month. There’s Christmas chocolate tasting (£22.50) on 16th and 17th (yum), and an adult / child session making <a href="https://www.hollychocs.com/products/kids-chocolate-experience" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">spooky treats</a> (£60) on 26th. If you haven’t tried one of Holly’s courses before, it’s a hard recommend from us.

The clever peeps over at Glove Factory Studios are giving supper clubs a new twist this season. Alongside their legendary seasonal feasts, they’ll be combining lighter meals with inspirational talks. On 11th October you can tuck into drinks and nibbles while you listen to specialist tulip grower Polly Nicholson, who will be sharing her passion for these mighty flowers. Afterwards, wander over to the Wild Herb at The Field Kitchen, for a two-course supper. Head to the Marlborough offshoot on 25th October, for a masterclass on coconut prawn curry. You’ll sip on a glass of vino while the resident chefs share their hints and tips. Forks at the ready! It’s all about autumnal flavours over at Forage, where head chef Ben McCubbin is showcasing a five-course menu on 3rd October. Chef Jake Simpson was formerly head chef at Soho’s Bocca di Lupo, and now he’s cooking up a storm at <a href="https://therectoryhotel.com/restaurant-bar/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Rectory Hotel</a>. The monthly supper clubs are a hot ticket and the next is set for 3rd October. This five course extravaganza comes in at £60pp. To tempt your tastebuds, roast cod with clams and mussels are on the menu, alongside a lip-smacking honey custard tart, with brown butter ice cream. Yum!
