5 reasons to visit The Parade Cinema, Marlborough
Where can you sip a cocktail, watch the latest film, enjoy the ballet and plan your kids' birthday party? The Parade Cinema in Marlborough ticks all our boxes for a day (or night) out…
Forget the sticky floors, overpriced hot dogs and narrow seats of the cinemas of your youth – The Parade in Marlborough is an altogether more stylish affair. Think chic cocktails, an excellent menu, and screenings of everything from Spiderman to Shakespeare – plus, it’s a total saviour in the school hols.
A former Chapel, The Parade is beautiful inside and out. As well as the vintage-inspired auditorium with balcony, there’s a café area with al fresco terrace with heaters and rugs (perfect for enjoying the long summer evenings that we’ve been dreaming of!)
Need more convincing? Here are our top five reasons to head to the cinema this summer…
There’s way more than popcorn to eat
You won’t need to shell out for sad packets of crisps or sneak a pack of Haribo in your coat pocket here – The Parade has a brilliant cafe and bar with – gasp! – actual, real meals! The menu is created in partnership with Wilts caterers and cookery school Vaughan’s Kitchen, and is freshly prepared and cooked from their own kitchen. You can get everything from coffee, croissants and homemade cakes in the morning to mezze platters, stone-baked sourdough pizzas, wraps and salads for lunch and dinner.
Prefer a more traditional cinema snack? There are smoked German-style hot dogs in brioche buns (vegans have a plant-based option too!) or nachos with homemade cheese sauce, guacamole, salsa, sour cream and jalapeños. We might skip the film and just make reservations for dinner, to be honest. Especially considering our next point…
You can try a tipple from local producers
There’s a well-stocked bar too – hallelujah! There’s everything you’d want from a bar here (hello, cocktail hour), but we’re particularly excited to see the local offerings. Marlborough-based Ramsbury Brewery provides lip-smacking beers as well as gin and vodka for those cocktails, and Yapp Brothers in Mere are responsible for the excellent wine list. There’s also award-winning cider available from Tutt’s Cider, who hail from just over the border in Berkshire.
It’s not all superhero films – there’s culture too
Now we’re suitably wined and dined, it’s on to the main attraction: the films! There’s one screen here at The Parade, and films shown range from the latest Marvel blockbuster to animated classics for the kids (more on that later). However, there’s also a great range of live-streamed cultural hits such as Dean’s Hamlet from the Met Opera (above), Jodie Comer’s West End debut Prima Facie and the Royal Ballet’s Swan Lake. A night out at the theatre never looked so easy!
Littles can enjoy the kids’ club
Wet weekend saviour, ahoy! The Parade screens big-hitter children’s films (think Frozen, Moana and Sing 2) every Saturday morning, which is a great way to force them out of the house and get everyone together for a family outing. There are also one-off events for children such as the Easter egg hunt they held this year (complete with Easter bunny!), so it’s a brilliant option to have on your parenting radar.
You can have the whole place to yourself!
Fancy your very own film premiere? You can hire out the entire cinema for yourself (and some friends, of course) and have The Parade cater the whole thing – that’s my next big birthday bash sorted. Speaking of which, there are also birthday packages for the kids for up to 30, with hire of the upstairs balcony and a hot dog and pizza buffet. Simply drop The Parade a line to book.
As if you needed another reason to visit, we’re giving one lucky Muddy reader the chance to win a year-long membership to The Parade Cinema worth £100! Hotfoot it over to our Reader Treat to enter before 15 June.
