Forage at Wadswick, near Corsham
Great breakfasts, excellent lunches and yes, the dog can come too. Add in a cracking cake counter and countryside views, and you’ve got Forage at Wadswick.

If you only came for a coffee, you won’t be the first to accidentally stay for lunch. Forage has that effect, helped along by excellent flat whites, a dangerous cake counter and a strong all-day menu.
The space here is light and airy, spread across two floors. Hunker down on a sofa by the fire, head upstairs for views across rolling fields, or fight it out for a sought-after spot in the pretty courtyard on a sunny day. Coffees are consistently excellent (it’s a Muddy go-to for a proper flat white), but you’ll also find Belgian hot chocolate, freshly squeezed juices and a seriously tempting line-up of breakfasts and lunches.
Food-wise, Forage covers both comfort and classy, from eggs royale and stacked burgers to tempura prawns, and soy and honey duck salad. Classics like brie and cranberry toasties are impeccably executed too. Sundays are well worth planning ahead for. The roasts don’t hold back: sirloin of Aberdeen Angus beef or lemon and thyme roast chicken, piled high with veggies, cauliflower gratin, crisp roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings and lashings of gravy.
In the kitchen is head chef Ben McCubbin, working alongside his wife Laura who runs front of house. With an impressive CV including Lucknam Park, The Bath Priory and The Royal Crescent Hotel, Ben brings serious pedigree, and it shows on the plate.
A Muddy Award-winner, Forage also hosts themed seasonal supper clubs which regularly sell out. And don’t leave without popping next door into Wadswick Stores, a vast shop selling everything from Holland Cooper, Fairfax & Favor and Barbour, to high-end equestrian gear and possibly the most impressive selection of wellies you’ll ever see.
