The Manor House, Castle Combe

An historic Cotswolds hotel, boasting 365 beautiful acres, a Michelin star restaurant and film star good looks. Check in, throw away the key and be swept off your feet in this idyllic retreat like no other.

When it comes to bucolic boltholes, The Manor House is a countryside retreat like no other. In fact, you may have caught a glimpse of these very halls in many a Hollywood film, including Steven Spielberg’s 2011 epic, War Horse.

Set in the postcard-pretty village of Castle Combe, near Bath, this 14th-century B-Corp manor offers quintessential English charm across 50 bedrooms and suites, kitted with all the mod cons, and indulgent touches like swish spa baths and fireplaces.

If you can tear yourself away from the plush four-poster beds, there are 365 acres of parkland and an Italianate Garden to breathe in, plus a tennis court, croquet lawn, and an 18-hole golf championship course. If you check into the manor a novice golfer, you’ll walk out a fanatic. Famously designed by former pro-golfer Peter Alliss and Clive Clark, the course is on another level, surrounded by oak and beech trees and split in the middle by the River Bybrook.

Dining here oozes five-star status. Take your pick between the Michelin-starred Bybrook, serving British modern classics that never fail to delight. Or try the Time Bar, which offers a pared-back dinner menu and extensive cocktail list. Fun fact: the Shakespeare Lounge is apparently where Margaret Thatcher wrote her memoirs. Afternoon tea is also an absolute joy – think tiered stands with dainty sandwiches, fluffy buttermilk scones and elegant pastries. For something more casual, the hotel’s very own pub, The Castle Inn, benefits from a refined traditional menu, and has garnered a much deserved two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence. Crucially, it also has a roaring fire, perfect for chilly days.

As you’d expect, this handsome country pile makes a show-stopping wedding venue and The Manor House has two gold ‘Best of Bridebook’ awards to prove it. Thanks to the in-house wedding coordination team, and brilliant directory of tried-and-tested suppliers, you can kick back and let them bring your big day to life. Top-notch dining, swathes of countryside at your disposal, and easy access to the city. What’s not to love?

New for summer 2026: The Manor House has just launched its summer offers, and they look very tempting indeed. Think three nights for the price of two, or a two-night Eat.Sleep.Repeat stay, which includes dinner at Michelin-starred Bybrook and 10% off B&B. Short on time? Their Summer Sleepover gives 10% off a one-night stay when booked in advance – ideal for a quick but seriously indulgent countryside reset.
