Picnic blankets at the ready! The stunning setting of Bowood House just got even better, with a series of outdoor screenings. Take your pick from Elvis (7 July 9:45pm), Grease (8 July 9:45pm) and Top Gun: Maverick (9 July, 9:45pm). There’s an onsite bar and hot food, but you can take your own too – we’re thinking antipasti, washed down with a nice crisp Pinot Grigio. If Sandy and Danny don’t float your boat, there are screenings of Mamma Mia (8 June), Top Gun: Maverick (9 June) and Elvis (10 June) too. The popular pub is laying on deck chairs and bean bags, plus there’s the option to supercharge your night with one of their fab meals (we recommend the burger). Luna Cinema is the guru of outdoor movies, and this year it’s coming to Longleat for a three-day extravaganza. Go retro, with a screening of Pretty Woman (13 August 8:45pm), or choose from Elvis (11 August 8:45pm) and Top Gun: Maverick (12 August 8:35pm). Skip the faff of carrying your own stuff, by hiring a director’s chair and blanket, plus you can pick up food and snacks onsite. It may be a skip over the border, but an al fresco movie at Westonbirt House sounds just too good to miss. As far as cinematic settings go, this one is pretty spectacular. Pack a picnic, grab your blankets and settle down for a showing of Top Gun: Maverick (3 June). You can’t take in alcohol, but there’s a bar onsite. If you fancy travelling light, upgrade to a VIP ticket and you’ll get your own deck chair and rug.
