Hot off the press in Wiltshire this week...Glamping rumours, luxe new design shop in Bradford-on-avon, Moulton Hall open gardens, top chefs at Whatley Manor's Paradise Carriage
Exit Duke of Hastings
I’m sorry to break it to you, but Regé-Jean Page won’t be appearing in series two of Bridgerton. Which means there is zilch chance of spotting him filming around Wilton House, the Wiltshire stately home that stood in for the Duke of Hotness’ London mansion. Apparently Bridgerton are squabbling with The Crown over the Wilton House location, so there is a possibility of spying fellow royal hottie Josh O’Connor. I know, he plays Prince Charles, I’m as confused as you are, but we still would. Equally confusing is that Camilla is played by Emerald Fennell, total queen of the hour IRL.
The Hall, Bradford on avon
Try as I might I can’t see over the wall, so thank goodness rarely-accessible The Hall (of Moulton Bikes fame) is opening its gardens on Friday afternoons until 28th May. We’re going to grab a picnic lunch from The Bunch of Grapes or Granny Mo’s round the corner.
You win some, you lose some
Lucky Salisbury has two brand new cafes: The Salisbury Orangery is a handsome new indie near the river on Crane Street (springing from her popular sister The Winchester Orangery) and Sondor Cafe on the High Street looks promising too. Gotta support those indies – the beloved Castle in Bradford on avon closed down during lockdown. Keep everything crossed someone great takes it over.
Top chefs at Paradise Carriage Pop-up
Fancy North Wilts hotel Whatley Manor have just confirmed a residency rota of four headline chefs at their gourmet take-away food truck this Spring. Paul Ainsworth (Padstow Townhouse), Brad Carter, Tom Sellers and Lisa Goodwin-Allen will join Executive Chef Niall Keating, each offering their own signature dishes (£25 pp for full menu). There will be plenty of outdoor seating available, as well as picnic spots, so don’t feel you have to get all that treaty food home in the car with you. Kicking off from 24th April.
New luxe design shop in Bradford-on-avon
So what’s new since we’ve been not-shopping? Well we’ve been pressing our noses up at the window of Bradford-on-avon’s Quercus Gallery for a good lockdown or two – their window displays have been the highlight of daily walks. This is the place to come for a classy treat – need a special birthday present (for yourself, obvs)? Think St Ives come Kettles Yard – mid-century influenced prints, contemporary jewellery, stylish homeware. A perfectly gentle way to re-introduce yourself to the art of shopping well.
We’ve heard our favourite family-friendly hotel, Woolley Grange, may be offering luxe glamping to their summer offerings this year. We can think of worse places to glamp – what with that outdoor swimming pool on hand. Watch this space in May…
