Comedy impressions and Chopin may seem an unlikely pair, but Alistair McGowan combines the two with stellar results. It’s a cracking month for comedy in Wilts. Spain’s self-dubbed best export, Ignacio Lopez, heads to Swindon Arts Centre on 30 Jan. Adult panto more your thing? On 23 January a fearless company of three actors pull off Jack And His Giant Stalk at the Wyvern Theatre. When Adele couldn’t persuade The Spice Girls to reform for her Munich residency, she turned to The Spice Girls Experience. Now, the tribute is touring the UK, alongside a fab backing band. Calling all Blur fans! The Pound in Corsham celebrates the legendary band this month, starting with a feature-length documentary about their 2023 return (28 Jan). If you love classical music, this is one for your diary. Nocturne (Salisbury Playhouse, 23 Jan) sees pianist Lucy Parham chronicle the romantic life of Frédéric Chopin. How about watching 16 strings, eight dancing feet and four voices in a music show? Graffiti Classics is a comedy string quartet, on a mission to make classical music fun. They’ll be busting their moves to everything from Beethoven to Elvis, and you can catch them at The Pound. Brit jazz singer Elaine Delmar is something of a legend – she’s graced stages in Broadway, the West End and Ronnie Scotts after all. If you need to banish the January blues, head down to Wiltshire Music Centre on 18 Jan for Bradford Roots. This popular one-day festival has five stages and a programme packed with performances, dancing and family friendly activities. Calling all budding potters! Artist Joanna Still is hosting a two- morning throwing masterclass at Messums in Tisbury. The sessions focus on wheel work, with the aim of expanding your knowledge of form and design. In other words, ideal for someone who already has a bit of experience! Up your interiors credentials and get to grips with the basics of upholstery, on this three-day course with Wiltshire-based guru, Joanna Heptinstall (starting 23 Jan). You’ll work on an antique dining chair and modern footstoll, learning buttoning and other techniques.
