From rain-fed freshwater pools and wildlife-rich lakes to guided river dips and Wim Hof-style ice bath workshops, here’s our pick of the best spots for cold water swimming in and around Wilts.</p>

<p>This 100m lake in Holt is a haven for adult cold water dippers and open-water swimmers. Swim under the watchful gaze of kingfishers, ducks and sheep, then pop across to the nearby Wild Herb at the Field Kitchen for a chill-busting coffee and breakfast brioche. There&#8217;s also a lovely <a href="https://www.blackswansauna.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lakeside sauna</a>, plus a changing hut and showers on site. Keen to give it a shot? You&#8217;ll find a <a href="https://www.glovefactorystudios.com/glove-dippers-group-dip/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">group dip</a> at 9am on Wednesday mornings (£12), plus a mid-monthly 7am <a href="https://www.glovefactorystudios.com/mid-monthly-lark-dip-3/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">lark dip</a>. Annual membership from £80.</p>

<p>This idyllic freshwater pool is fed by rainwater and crystal clear. Join one of the weekly cold water immersion sessions, plus you&#8217;ll also find safety workshops, coaching sessions and evening events. <p>A pretty private pond (it&#8217;s more like a lake), nestled in a quiet hollow of a nature reserve, surrounded by woodland and nature. You need to book, so keep tabs on their <a href="https://www.instagram.com/drewspond/?hl=en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">instagram </a>and <a href="https://www.wildlingstudio.co.uk/wildswimming" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Wildling Studio</a> for sessions. You&#8217;ll find two with cold water coach Ann Berrett, one 7th Feb and one on 7th March. </p>

<p>A huge, horseshoe-shaped weir makes for a stunning splash spot, just over the Wilts/Somerset border in the Avon valley. There&#8217;s no parking, so it&#8217;s best accessed by bike or foot. With no lifeguards and variable conditions we&#8217;d recommend going with an experienced group or joining an organised session. A great one for the man in your life &#8211; <a href="https://www.icebreakers.uk/bath" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">IceBreakers</a> meet here every Sunday at 8am for a dip, a chat and a cuppa. </p>

<p><a href="https://lake32.co.uk/activities/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lake 32 </a>is great for serious open water swimmers. Take your pick from a 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m and 750m course, and don&#8217;t forget your tow float (no float, no swim). You&#8217;ll find pay as you go sessions from £8 an hour or, if you&#8217;re keen, you can become a member. New to wild swimming? They highly recommend taking one of their regular inductions (£15), which include a supported dip, use of a tow float and hot drink to warm up (hurrah). </p>

<p>A few miles upriver, certified Wim Hof Method instructor Andy Mackenzie holds weekly cold water immersion sessions at Barton Farm in Bradford-on-Avon. This one is very much open to everyone, from seasoned dippers to newbies. You&#8217;ll find the <a href="https://www.dare2become.co.uk/pages/ducking-dippers" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ducking Dippers</a> near the Tithe Barn, and parking is free at Pound Lane car park until 10 am. </p>

This workshop, led by certified instructor Andy Mackenzie, blends breathwork, cold-therapy fundamentals and mindset work – with an optional ice bath to test your nerve. We’ve tried this one and it’s a hard recommend from us. <a href="https://www.dare2become.co.uk/products/wim-hof-method%C2%AE-fundamentals-workshop" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Workshops</a> cost £99 but be warned, sessions sell out fast. </p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-vobster-quay-frome"><a href="https://www.vobster.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vobster Quay</a>, Frome </h2>



<p>Muddy are regulars at former quarry,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.vobster.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Vobster Quay</a>&nbsp;near Frome, a 36-acre lake with a 750m swimming course. Come for open water swimming, scuba diving and stand-up paddleboarding. You have to be a member or come along as the guest of a member to swim or SUP; non-members can dive on Sunday afternoons.</p>
