Let’s face it – with a cost of living crisis popping up straight after a pandemic, a Russian President poised to push the button and the loss of a beloved monarch, things have felt, well, a bit on the not-very-funny-at-all side recently. But if you’re feeling as if there&#8217;s no light at the end of the 2022 tunnel, don’t worry, there’s plenty in Wilts to keep your spirits up this Autumn &#8211; and we all know laughter is the best medicine.



For a start, Swindon&#8217;s the epicentre of laughs this season – and for all the right reasons. On 2nd October, comedy actor Joe Rooney – who played Father Damo in Father Ted is <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-a-celebration-of-father-ted-swindon-2022" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-a-celebration-of-father-ted-swindon-2022" target="_blank">having an evening of conversation</a> reminiscing about performing in the smash-hit series, followed by a stand-up gig, both at Swindon Arts Centre &#8211; if you can&#8217;t make that date, catch him on 5th November with the same show at<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/a-celebration-of-father-ted/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/a-celebration-of-father-ted/" target="_blank"> Salisbury Arts Centre</a>. Then on 8th October, comedian Simon Day performs at the same venue, presenting some of his much loved <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-simon-day-swindon-2022" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-simon-day-swindon-2022" target="_blank">Fast Show characters </a>including Billy Bleach, Dave Angel Eco Warrior and Tony Beckton &#8211; good old nostalgic fun whether you watched it it first time round or discovered it years later on Amazon Prime.

After appearing on&nbsp;Live at The Apollo, Mock The Week,&nbsp;and&nbsp;The Last Leg, Maisie Adam pops up at Swindon Arts Centre on 16 October with her witty one-woman show, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-maisie-adam-swindon-2021" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-maisie-adam-swindon-2021" target="_blank">Buzzed</a> while three days later at the Wyvern Theatre, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-hal-cruttenden-swindon-2022" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-hal-cruttenden-swindon-2022" target="_blank">Hal Cruttenden </a>tells a tale of divorce and dropping enough dress sizes to get his wedding ring off his finger. Then on November 4th, Rob Newman, fresh from his Radio 4 show, Rob Newman on Air, will be giving you the giggles at the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-rob-newman-live-on-stage-swindon-2022" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/tickets-rob-newman-live-on-stage-swindon-2022" target="_blank">Wyvern Theatre</a>, before taking the same show to<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/rob-newman/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/rob-newman/" target="_blank"> Salisbury Arts Centre</a> on the 11th.

Although it&#8217;s worth keeping an eye on the complete Swindon comedy night bookings <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/whatson-comedy" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/whatson-comedy" target="_blank">here</a> (there are already bookings into next Spring for <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/whatson-comedy" data-type="URL" data-id="https://swindontheatres.co.uk/Online/whatson-comedy" target="_blank">Danny Baker, Lucy Porter and Stephen Amos</a> among other more up-and-coming names), Salisbury&#8217;s also got its fair share of funny folk visiting, like Jen Brister, performing <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/jen-brister-the-optimist/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/jen-brister-the-optimist/" target="_blank">her glass-half-empty show</a> on the 8th October. Musical satirist <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/mitch-benn-its-about-time/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/mitch-benn-its-about-time/" target="_blank">Mitch Benn</a> performs on the 15th October and Jessica Fostekew brings her show, <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/jessica-fostekew-wench/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/jessica-fostekew-wench/" target="_blank">Wench</a> to Salisbury Arts Centre on 19th October. It&#8217;s billed as a show about &#8220;sexy&#8221; and &#8220;private things&#8221; and as she&#8217;s the co-host of The Guilty Feminist podcast, creator of The Hoovering Podcast and a regular on on&nbsp;BBC R4&#8217;s&nbsp;News Quiz and Now Show it&#8217;s bound to be hilariously uncomfortable. Finally on 3rd December Mark Watson talks about how it feels to be halfway through his days on earth, according to the life expectancy calculator app he paid £1.49 for, in his new show <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/mark-watson-this-cant-be-it/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/whats-on/salisbury-arts-centre/mark-watson-this-cant-be-it/" target="_blank">This Can&#8217;t Be It.</a>

Smaller towns also have their fair share of laughter this Autumn-Winter too. <a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk/whats-on/dom-jolys-holiday-snaps-0" data-type="URL" data-id="https://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk/whats-on/dom-jolys-holiday-snaps-0" target="_blank">Dom Joly</a> is heading to The Wiltshire Music Centre in Bradford on Avon on 11th November, where he will be showing his holiday snaps from extreme places like North Korea, The Congo, Syria to Chernobyl. We&#8217;re promised comedy with a hint of danger.
