Over at Salisbury Playhouse, there&#8217;s TONS of comedy for the taking this month. You can catch <a href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/russell-hicks-this-time-its-personal" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Russell Hicks</a> on 23rd Jan, <a href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/omid-djalili-namaste" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Omid Djalili</a> on 27th Jan and <a href="https://www.wiltshirecreative.co.uk/events/judi-love-all-about-the-love" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Judi Love</a> on 30th Jan. Phew. 



The brilliant Jason Manford brings his wit to Swindon’s Wyvern Theatre on 18th Jan. Expect a lorra laugh-out-loud moments, but be quick as <a href="https://trafalgartickets.com/wyvern-theatre-swindon/en-GB/event/comedy/jason-manford-a-manford-all-seasons-tickets" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">tickets</a> are flying. You&#8217;ll find belly laughs aplenty in Corsham, when <a href="https://poundarts.org.uk/whats-on/tom-rosenthal-whatever-people-say-i-am-thats-what-i-am/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tom Rosenthal </a>(star of Friday Night Dinner (C4) and Plebs (ITV)) hits The Pound on 31st Jan. You&#8217;ll also catch the brilliant <a href="https://poundarts.org.uk/whats-on/marcus-brigstocke-vitruvian-mango/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marcus Brigstocke</a> there on 24th Jan, tickets £18. 



Great news for anyone wanting a giggle &#8211; comedy nights are returning to Salisbury&#8217;s Guildhall for 2026. Things kick off on 30th Jan, with Alistair Barrie, Julian Deane and Dave Fulton. <a href="https://salisburycitycouncil.gov.uk/comedy-nights-return-to-the-guildhall-in-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tickets </a>£17.50, but better book sharpish. 



For more comedy action, head to Salisbury Arts Centre on 30th Jan, when three top acts from London’s comedy circuit will be the stars of the show. Thought panto season was over? Think again! The brilliant Jack and the Beanstalk runs at Salisbury Playhouse until 11th Jan, plus there&#8217;s an adults only show on 9th Jan. 



Market Theatre’s Adult Panto Company will be corrupting another fairy tale when they hit the Wyvern Theatre on 15th Jan. Over at Bath&#8217;s Theatre Royal things get spooky in the supernatural thriller&nbsp;<a href="https://www.theatreroyal.org.uk/events/222-a-ghost-story/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">2:22 A Ghost Story</a>, starring James Bye, Natalie Casey, Gary Lucy and Shvorne Marks. Catch it from&nbsp;Mon 19 – Sat 24 Jan.



The best of London&#8217;s National Theatre comes to The Pound in Corsham this month, starting with a screening of <a href="https://poundarts.org.uk/event-category/film/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Mrs Warren&#8217;s Profession</a> on 13th Jan. This is an absolute cracker, starring Olivier Award winner Imelda Staunton and her daughter Bessie Carter (Bridgerton). 



Prefer a spot of Shakespeare? Head there on 26th Jan for a screening of Hamlet, starring Olivier Award-winner Hiran Abeysekera. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is set to be screened in the cinema room, swiftly followed by a three course feast in Grey’s restaurant. Up for an operatic extravaganza? Head to Wiltshire Music Centre on 18th Jan for a screening of <a href="https://www.wiltshiremusic.org.uk/event/screening-the-royal-opera-la-traviata/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Royal Opera’s La Traviata</a>. Be warned: this one is 4 hours long. Tickets from £10.50.



Meanwhile, jazz aficionados would do well to hop over the border to Bath for the 6th annual&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bathjazzweekend.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Bath Jazz Weekend</a>&nbsp;at the Widcombe Social Club. Renowned bands and soloists from the UK and Europe are set to play from 9th – 11th Jan.

Feast your eyes on a new exhibition of British posters from the 19th and 20th centuries in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.victoriagal.org.uk/event/poster-power" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Poster Power!</a>&nbsp;at the Victoria Art Gallery, Bath,&nbsp;from 23rd Jan – 10th May. Alternatively, be dazzled by Dame Zandra Rhodes’ super colourful screen-printed clobber from the 1960s, 70s and 80s in&nbsp;<a href="https://holburne.org/events/zandra-rhodes-a-life-in-print/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Zandra Rhodes: A Life in Print,</a>&nbsp;at the Holburne Museum, Bath,&nbsp;from 24th Jan until 10th May.&nbsp;



Over at <a href="https://www.sculpture.uk.com/justine-randall-tapestries" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Roche Court Sculpture Park</a> in East Winterslow, you&#8217;ll find an exhibition of tapestries until 1st Feb. The wall hangings use the differing weights and textures of yarn to convey the changing quality of light, plus they&#8217;re accompanied by sculpture. It&#8217;s open seven days a week, but you need to <a href="https://www.sculpture.uk.com/plan-your-visit" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">book ahead</a>. 



He didn&#8217;t catch Alan Carr on Celebrity Traitors, but BAFTA award-winning producer, writer and historian,&nbsp;<a href="https://bathforum.co.uk/whats-on/david-olusoga-btsd" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Prof David Olusoga</a>&nbsp;sure does know his history. Catch him in&nbsp;History’s Missing Chapters, at Bath Forum,&nbsp;on 16th Jan.



Hurry, you have until 12th Jan to catch Japanese contemporary artist Kaori Kato at <a href="https://www.messums.org/exhibitions/kaori-kato/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Messums</a> in Tisbury. You&#8217;ll find her incredible hand-folded installations in the tithe barn, alongside a series of architectural constructions by Australian artist and filmmaker Daniel Agdag.

Inspired by The Great Pottery Throw Down? Wiltshire Ceramic Studio in Foxham is running two hour family sessions on 17th and 31st Jan. Choose a project (think bowl, mug, a fairy house, or dream up your own idea) and have a go on the wheel, if you like. It&#8217;s £45 for one adult and one child, and you&#8217;ll need to <a href="https://wiltshireceramicstudio.co.uk/parties-for-families/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">book in advance</a>. Materials and firing are included. 



If you&#8217;re NY resolution includes a detox, head to <a href="https://overtownmanor.co.uk/about/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Overtown Manor </a>in Wroughton on 14th or 15th Jan for a healthy cooking demonstration with pro cook Nancy. You&#8217;ll come away with healthy recipes, plus tons of know-how and tips. Tickets £60, which includes the chance to eat the dishes. 



Fancy getting 2026 off to a creative start? <a href="https://poundarts.org.uk/take-part/life-drawing-series-1-drop-in-2026/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">The Pound </a>kicks off the new year with a series of life drawing drop-in sessions, starting from 5th Jan. It’s £13 a pop. If mixed media is more your thing, head there on 12th Jan for a day with artist <a href="https://poundarts.org.uk/take-part/mixed-media-drawing-masterclass-with-the-artist-john-l-harris/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">John L. Harris</a> (£50). 



Over in Corsham, the talented Jane Scott is holding a pottery and brunch session on 1st Feb (you&#8217;ll need to book now). You&#8217;ll use slabs of clay and wooden press moulds to make an olive dish, then&nbsp;<a href="https://www.beththefreerangechef.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Beth Alexander</a> (AKA the free-range chef) will dish up a three course veggie meal. <a href="https://www.janescottceramics.com/shop/pottery-brunch-club/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Tickets </a>£115.



How about getting to grips with linocut this year? Over in Rowde <a href="https://www.hannahcantellowstudio.co.uk/original-prints-for-sale-from-Wiltshire/Printfolk-Fridays-Beginner-Linocut-in-Rowde-Devizes-p782967290" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hannah Cantellow</a> runs regular sessions for beginners, and you&#8217;ll find the next on 16th Jan (£55). This one&#8217;s inspired by sculptural seed heads.



Vaughan&#8217;s Kitchen has loads of great cookery courses this month, but our fave has to be the <a href="https://vaughanscookeryschool.co.uk/products/fermented-food-far-east-asian-cuisine?_pos=2&amp;_fid=3925b7d80&amp;_ss=c" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">fermented food</a> session on 17th Jan (£75). You’ll learn how to make dishes including Korean kimchi, Japanese pickles with nori and peking cucumbers with toasted sesame. Sounds delish, and great for your gut. 



Put a ring on it, at a masterclass with Lacock-based jeweller <a href="https://www.arianawatling.com/products/jewellery-workshops?variant=52597145698571" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Ariana Watling</a>. She&#8217;ll guide you through the process of creating your own ring, bracelet, earrings, or pendant. The next sessions are 8th and 11th Jan, £159pp.
