Wiltshire’s hotel scene is certainly having a moment. Hot on the heels of the announcement that Corsham House will open in mid July, another highly anticipated new bolthole is quietly opening its doors in one of our prettiest villages.

Teffont House launches on 22nd June, with 17 gorgeous bedrooms, a restaurant, wellness space and a TON of countryside charm. Set in the village of Teffont Evias, in the Nadder Valley, this handsome stone house – formerly Howard’s House Hotel – dates back to 1623. Local legend has it that Laurence Olivier once stayed here, and that he was even partial to a skinny dip in the pond.

Now, after a massive renovation, the hotel aims to capture the feeling of staying with a friend in the country – albeit one with impeccable taste. Expect it to be relaxed, welcoming and quietly luxurious, not stiff and formal.

If your idea of heaven involves a croquet lawn, a cold plunge, a good book rand sundowners in the walled garden, you’ll get on exceedingly well here. Guests can book Bramley treatments, get toasty in the sauna, explore the surrounding countryside or settle into a deckchair beneath some of Wiltshire’s darkest skies, telescope in hand. There are even dedicated huts for painting, journalling and stargazing, which sounds pretty dreamy to us.

Then there’s the food. Former Pig chef Tom Holloway is heading up the kitchen at Teffont House, which should tell you most of what you need to know. Expect seasonal West Country produce, and dishes like Porthilly oysters with rhubarb hot sauce, Portland crab croquettes and herb-crusted lamb rack. There’s also a daily cheese trolley, packed lunches for walkers and afternoon jaffles (AKA toasties).

Perhaps most appealing of all is the location. Tucked away among rolling fields and ancient woodland, yet within easy reach of Tisbury station, this bolthole feels perfectly positioned for both London escapees and Wiltshire locals.
